Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

People dont show up to work anymore

As a stock holder in Qualcomm I demand investigations into groups with people not showing up to work on regular basis. In my group about one third of the people do not show up on any given day. I can provide specific information if anyone is actually interested in fixing something in this sh*thole.

Agree with the comment about ethics hotline. Demanding anyone do anything but look at this for a chuckle is nonsensical jibber jabber right out of BLDG N.

Do You Really think your job is going to be saved just because you come into work. Most jobs are going to be off-shored to foreign countries eventually. USA is considered "high cost" for most companies - why would they employ 1 person in USA when you can employ 3 to 5 people off-shore. As jobs get automated, they will eventually eliminate those positions as well. Wait till AI comes into full swing. There aren't enough jobs for the amount of world population, so you will see competition between companies and countries to get the jobs. And which ever country can get the job done at low cost and have highly educated skilled people will always win in gaining jobs. Just look at how USA is now relying on foreign companies (like Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung perhaps eventually Huawei and ZTE) to build their 5G network. And then we expect it to be secure as well. If USA wants security, then it has to have it's own network company that can develop 5G, 6G, network.

@XLBQPNj-zgs you can tell this bullsh*t to your manager, it does not work here though. Logging in twice or three times a day to check email is not considered work. We all know that people call into meeting and do their own thing at home, then you call their names and realize they are not there, that happens everyday.

I can tell you are just another paycheck collector without any actual work, otherwise why would the idea of showing up to work bother you? If you are actually working all day, then you might as well do it at the work place.

Headcount can be easily reduced by 30~40+% and do the same job as yesterday. This is coming sooner than later, watch out 2019!

This will be a good thing for stock holders.

HR asking my uncles and relatives to convince me to go to usa. They are also posting jobs that suit my profile. Wow HR is paying sooooo much attention to me for past 4 years. Love you guys. Useless fellows.

You should be allowed to work from home or else consider 1 hour commute time as company time. 5 hours wasted every week from 40 hours of work week.

Shut up it's me you're talking about. I'm not just a slacker. I don't have a lot to do, my management thinks I'm busy, so why ruin a good thing.... I'm resting and vesting, great performance reviews, retention bonus, etc. Flying beneath the radar until i get my severance, no rush though

I can tell these scenarios are mostly seen in SW departments, where better opportunities are outside and tasks are being moved to india sooner or later.

Qualcomm's products will be obviously ruined by this. I really don't believe quality work can be delivered as before

Are they allowed to work from home? Does Qualcomm have skype, Jabber, or something equivalent that is used to communicate with each other?

If you are sitting in front of your monitor all day and use webex for meetings and skype or jabber or email or phone for communication, then do you really have to physically be at the work location. Technology has gotten so good that anyone can work remotely from anywhere - even China or India. So stop living in the 80's. Those were the old ways of working. Besides working from home has it's benefits and it's a winner for many companies cause they get a lot more out of employees. Especially when you have to call in for early morning meetings or work late evening to meet schedule deadlines. And don't forget the weekends. The company doesn't even pay for the weekends, and people end up working at least a few hours during the weekend.

Yah, sure, you have your occasional slackers but most employees aren't slackers. Worry about yourself, how you can develop your skills for the current and next job, and be proud of the work you do for the company. Don't keep comparing yourself with the guy next to you. Who cares about that guy.

Perhaps they want the package. They have created this situation where slackers will get a big check and probably think the company is doomed anyways. Why work?
