Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

I Finally Made It

Just as I have been hoping since all this started. To survive this mess all I wanted was to get to 53. With over 30 years service and wanting to retire at 55 anyways I knew if I made it to 53 and got walked out, the severance would be two years and thus would make it to where I wanted.

Guess what??? While I had to wait till 53 and 3 months, my wish was granted. I got walked out last week. Two years pay as my lawyer said I would get.

And I am not the only one in this position. Sad that a company has all these people like me, just hoping to survive, then hoping to get walked when they have the numbers.

But I am so glad to be gone.

What kind of severance packages are being offered these days? They used to be quite generous. Now I am not so sure.

I consulted a lawyer years ago when I knew I the company had changed into an entity I could no longer respect. I simply needed to find out when my severance would be enough to ensure I got the retirement I wanted. Basically when they would need to pay me two years.

You have no idea how many people are in the same boat as I was. Just coasting along.

There is no initiative or pride to do more for a vast majority of the longer term employees.

In 30 years I’d assume you’re retiring at at least VP level no?

It feels exactly like getting out of prison. It wasn’t always this way. Just the last 5 years.

Glad you made it, but I must say it almost sounds like something someone who got released from prison would say, after serving a long and hard sentence

Yes it will be. Anything has to be better than the culture and moral there.

It’s actuallu sad how my career ended. Use to love the place. Had pride in working there.

But for my last few years I gave up like lots of people in my situation. I did just enough to make sure I got by. Then when I hit 53 I made sure they knew I was expendable.

Looking forward to the rest of my life.
