Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Who wouldn't want one person to do three peoples job? Will it work? I say no

Im just a lowly copy center guy but our weekly goal is up 50% more than our best weeks ever. And of course we are the new outside sales people usung sharepoint and having call days. Who wouldnt want 9ne person to do three peoples job? Will it work? I say no, Sales is an honourable and specailized profession and I do not believe they will be successful in the approach. The main problem for us is that the tasks and micr management leaves absolutly no time for quality production. It is a struggle. And getting employees here (9.00) copy center is impossible. The applicants are so bad. Wally work next store is a much better option in our neck of the woods. So they are going to take walmart rejects and turn them into sales reps. Good luck

I agree absolutely with @XDufy9U-3hjq .

I remember a CE VP state that he would write a book about "Why relationship selling no longer exist."

They swapped accounts around and added Category Specialists doubling the payroll. The Specialists were not sales people and didn't perform the function they were tasked. The expected growth of the categories failed. I'm still waiting for WM's best seller to come out on the New York Times Best seller List!

“Too bad Staples has a very successful outside retail copy center sales force at one time— run by professional sales folks.” LOL, I was told by a now laid off Print guy that this crack crew sold 50k -600k annually at most. You can’t pay people base + commission + benefits for that amount of sales. That’s why all the massive layoffs happened to this “professional sales group”. You were being subsidized and the ones that are left inherited the sales that they have or we (the sals) are closing the deals. Weak LOB team.

Starboard Value were the ones pushing for the Office Depot merger. They are pretty well-known, feel free to look them up before you start trading in conspiracy theories.

comment on the public vs. private ownership. who were the shareholders way back that forced Staples on a fools errand to acquire office depot? certainly not the Joe Shmoe shareholders. So who was it? RS wasn't for it he bailed as soon as it failed. What did he know? Theory, SP forced the attempt through straw share holders to make Staples an easy takeover target. the truth is out there just keep shining the light

Grammar nazi!!!

Content over spelling. Grammar nazis have no ability to critical read through typing errors. Must be a Staples AVP.

This post is hysterical! Too bad Staples has a very successful outside retail copy center sales force at one time— run by professional sales folks. This initiative will fail miserably because you cannot run an outside sales team with a retail mentality. One would think that Dtaples would have learned this lesson from having already been through it.... but alas stupidly wins over business sense. I am so glad this isn’t a publicly traded company anymore— at least it’s just Sycamore losing money not the everyday Joe Shmoe investor subjected to stupid decisions by unskilled “ leadership” hahahahaha....
