I actually think this is a good thread - the opinions are all over the place as it should be
If you look beyond what people post on this board, you'll see articles by technology activists, patent experts, etc. saying the lawsuit is invalid. Just look up #ftcqcom. FTC itself looks clownish by bringing in foreign companies to testify against Qcom.
Stupid arguments in this thread. My bet is the judge doesn't use Forbes as an expert witness or for any legal opinion. At least one pro Qualcomm poster in this thread would insist QCOM stock price has outperformed the market, that's how out of touch with reality this person is, mollenkoph himself posting here????
Haha you are funny again. Somehow Qcom has deeper pockets than Apple. Your preconceived notions are so loud in your ears that common sense is getting drowned out.
Qualcomm is in the business of making money. If laying off people and replacing them with H1B makes them more profitable, then they are going to do that. Every company is doing that. Why single out Qualcomm.
Go pressure the law makers. We have seen H1B abuse discussed for years. What has nothing been done. Though Trump is trying to make some tiny changes, it is not enough. Still seem them as band aids than actual overhaul. People often complain about corporations having more control. The constitution gives the law makers enough power to act and get this under control. But they seem to asleep at the wheels.
Anyway, enough rambling. Qualcomm will win both the cases. But unfortunately a lot of damage has been done. Like any wounded animal returning to its safe place to recover, Qualcomm is returning to 5G modem business, the only thing they feel is always a safe play for them. They have pretty much killed or crippled all other future revenue sources. Though they will prevail and win both the lawsuits the company will not return to its former glory.
Most of the news outside of Apple websites say FTC suit is invalid. Go ahead and say they are paid shills if that makes you feel better. FTC even looks foolish for calling Huawei, a company competing against U.S. companies, as a witness against Qcom. Trump undoubtedly saw this and couldn't stand seeing the U.S. government helping foreign companies.
Judge Koh, an Obama judge, even said Apple was violating Qcom patents, but wouldn't ban iPhones because consumers would lose out on 'choice.'
Forbes is not FAKE NEWS. It is a PAID SHRILL.
Forbes is PAID money, lots of money, to publish.
Q has deep pockets of graft and pays/persuades/entices with $$$ lots of media.
Go read the real news and you will see. Open your eyes to H1B mill; temp worker abuses and s---c-des. Q knows how to lay off/fire folks esp just before they implode. Work stress city. They work folks to the edge of breakdown then let them go.
Are you going to call Forbes as FAKE NEWS as well

"Intel modems at that time were not capable of replacing Qualcomm modems in handsets, because they lacked key features and performance, and didn’t meet Apple’s requirements"
Conspiracy theorist alerts !! Really, look at this article. German Judge followed the letter of the law to ban iphone sales as soon as infringement was proved in court. US judge agrees the Apple infringed on Qcom patents but refuses to ban iphone. "Thomas Pender, an administrative law judge at the ITC, said that “public interest factors” weighed against granting Qualcomm’s request for a ban." What happened to justice? What public interest, Iphone don't feed the poor or cure any ills. Reeks of Collusion!

@1bou Exactly. Those countries sued left and right but they didn't change Qcom's licensing practices. China just reduced the percentage, which isn't really a percentage since it's capped at $400 of the price of the device. People here constantly point out the lawsuits of other countries, which have no relevancy to the outcome of this case, so why not also point out that Qcom's business model remain nearly the same after the lawsuits?
"It is blatantly apparent that the FTC is doing this on Apple's bidding. "
Conspiracy theorist alerts !!
Maybe SM will call up his buddy in the whitehouse and get the FTC called off ?
"Apple did agree in the FTC case that they had to go with Qualcomm not for cost reasons, but for Quality reasons"
FAKE NEWS !
No one every chose Q because of superior quality. Hahahaha. Q has a track record in the industry of knowingly shipping defective/substandard parts and lying about it.
"Singling out Qcom here is not fair."
Ah dinkum. Poor little QCOM getting all bent out of shape over a couple of teeny lawsuits
It is blatantly apparent that the FTC is doing this on Apple's bidding. Especially it is shameful that the FTC is willing to throw one of it's own big companies. If you kept track of the lawsuit Apple did agree in the FTC case that they had to go with Qualcomm not for cost reasons, but for Quality reasons. This is like saying Ferrari and Honda both make cars. Why is Ferrari charging so much? Fact of the matter is there are people willing to pay more for better quality. If you feel Ferrari is charging you too much no one is stopping you from going for a Honda. FTC is just wasting tax payer money and should be held accountable. They will lose this case. Apple signed a contract and do not want to be held accountable for not holding their end of the bargain. They will lose their lawsuit as well. The other thing about CEO and laying off older people is rampant at all companies. Singling out Qcom here is not fair. As bad as Capitalism is there is nothing better out there at this time. The board members should hold the CEO accountable for his actions. But they are all in cahoots. CEO keeps a guy on the board so that he in turn can be kept on the board of some other company. This stuff has been going on since the 60's nothing new to see here.
Good lord. You do realize that the EU, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China have all fined Qualcomm for anticompetitive practices? Also maybe you’re not aware that every man, woman and child in America that recently bought a smartphone is involved in a class action suit against Qualcomm? Also, the FTC is not Apple, you know that too, right (unless you are a conspiracy nut)? Also you know that Qualcomm is a multi billion dollar company too... and you’re arguing that they should get more money? Does it really matter which of these giant companies gets the $10? Either way the consumer pays for it and SM gets one of the highest CEO salaries, they have six private jets and yet they still lay off older employees right before Christmas? The CFO decided that on your 20th year anniversary that an anniversary plaque is too expensive but instead you can GTFO. Lovely company you’re defending.
But don’t let the facts get in the way of you playing with cartoons.
