Stipend update per MN DoHE

Update on Stipend Funds

OHE has received notice that students attending Argosy University that have been waiting for their federal financial aid refunds will not be receiving those funds to be used for critical living expenses like rent, food, and transportation. The US Department of Education will be discharging amounts owed to students on federal loans and re-setting lifetime Pell eligibility. While this step helps students in the long-run, it does not help students pay the bills they have today.

On February 15, 2019, OHE notified Argosy University that it classifies the schools in teach-out and that no new enrollments are permitted at the Eagan, MN campus or Minnesota residents into the online campuses. OHE also is seeking all out-standing refunds of MN SELF Loans be made to students by February 22, 2019. If that validation is not made, OHE will take steps to ensure Minnesota tax-payer funded aid programs are paid directly to students and make a bond claim of the SELF Loan funds to refund students.

At AiO “students have to maintain a C or they lose financial aid” isn’t exactly accurate. If the student is failing and does not turn in the final they get a grade of “UF” instead of “F.” Or if they are failing and withdraw, the “W” and the “UF” won’t count against them in receiving financial aid. The people running the system figured out many ways around financial aid regulations. They’ve been IMO scamming students and the Feds for decades and have gotten quite wealthy in the process.

Not only do they spend it on Christmas shopping and IPhones, there are many we referred to as “stipend chasers”. They shop schools to see where they can get the biggest refund, do the bare minimum in class, fail, and do it all over again until they are kicked out. They’ll give you lots of tears as to why they are failing when it’s check time and ignore you until then.

It was actually sad to see how many applicants didn’t have enough financial aid left (out of 57,500) to even get an associates degree because they do this for years. Even worse were the ones using grad plus to get $9,000+ stipends.

And I have multiple students crying in my office because they can't afford groceries. In case that's not an "educational purpose," then I also have students in my office wondering what to do since they can't afford to buy textbooks.

I'm betting you're just a troll, but if you actually are working with these students ... stop LOLing at other people's pain.

Living expenses lol. I had multiple students tell me they were using their stipends for Christmas shopping or for vacation. Those sure are educational purposes.

Makes me sick! Our students can’t afford to eat as Brent Richardson is in his 7 million dollar house. One word = karma!
