David, as you well know, the "subprime college crash" has been developing since the 1990s and has resulted in enrollment losses since 2010-2011. In Fall 2018, the National Student Clearinghouse reported that for-profit college enrollment had dropped 15% from the previous year, the worst loss so far. And it sure looks like the crash will continue with National American University, DeVry University, University of Phoenix, Ashford University (working to be a non-profit), Colorado Tech, American Intercontinental University, Walden University, Purdue University Global (now a non-profit), and many smaller schools. DeVos has been horrible, but there is plenty of blame to go around, including the ED, VA, DOD, and the accreditors who refuse to act as gatekeepers for Title IV funds, GI Bill funds, and DOD Tuition Assistance. If this problem (along with student loan debt) is not addressed, we will see more spillover into the larger US College Meltdown: community colleges, HBCUs and tribal colleges, and small private colleges and regional state colleges, especially in (but not exclusive to) the Northeast and Midwest.
