Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

More layoffs this week?

I'm panicking, I've heard it from several people now that we are looking at more - and not small - layoffs this week.

Is this true? Is there more info on it? What locations are getting hit? I'd appreciate any info on it.

Working at Sungard has become a mental health hazard lately...

Management is not concerned about how well the offshore people can do their job - their only concern is cutting costs

The irony of offshoring at SG is that the more challenging tasks go beyond the skillset of the offshore employees and end up coming back to the US to teams whose staff has been reduced. There are 3 or 4 times more resources in the offshore teams yet work is sent back with the explanation 'this goes beyond scope of what we're contracted to support...'

new to this site, but sungard as has been using layoffs as an expense savings mechanism for over 10 years. I left there a little over a few years ago after working there for more then 13 years. It's shameful what those so-called leaders have done to that once-respected organization. If you work there, get out now, don't wait for a layoff. There is life after sungard, and it is glorious.

Been at SG for 7 yrs. US operations has been getting hit hard. In past layoffs I may have acquaintance of 1 or 2 peers who were let go. Since December there have been 7 people I've worked with who've been RIF'd. The people I know were all contributors so don't take a lay off as a guage of your contributions or ability - it's about cutting costs - no more. For me personally, it's business - I don't see this as 'oh SunGard is so cruel...' Mgmt has its issues, only thing an employee can do is to leave.

I was caught up in the lay-off last January.... up until getting the “call” I was told that my performance was role model that the rest of the team should follow.... one of my cross silo peers found out from the IT help desk.... he couldn’t get into the vpn and they informed him the reason was he was no longer an employee.... his manager called him later in the day..... follow the money.... sgas is owned by a hedge fund.... new loan last year with a balloon payment.... assets being sold... sales missing targets.... hedge fund is going to make money for them selves...when the end comes there will be no warning....

The company has had rolling layoffs for at least the last 2 + years. Nothing surprising about quarterly layoffs. I'm just not sure how the company will continue to function as there are not that many US/UK people left to let go

Have only seen the rumors here, but I wouldn't doubt that more are in the works. Tomorrow, payday, is the perfect time. I remember the massive hit in January 2017 that was timed just after mid-month pay. I guess time will tell
