Thread regarding Synamedia layoffs

WFH should be allowed and encouraged

I'm not referring to sick kids related WFH, as this should be treated as an exception. But overall, WFH should be allowed and encouraged. Trust employees to know themselves enough whether or not they can manage the self-imposed routine of working from home... then track the performance to make sure they are doing great.

If a manager can't trust an employee for that, how can they put anyone in charge of multi-million projects ... this isn't daycare folks.

For people against it, stop projecting your lack of self-discipline on others.

in our group we work as a team, we have daily conversations and collaborate together, its not an issue of mistrust, just an issue of wanting people to work together and giving you the feeling that you don't work alone, if that's not the case for you, you can always ask to be a remote worker.

You cannot have it both ways expecting people to work office hours Mon - Friday in a building at a designated desk (do we also have to clock our times?) and also pick up the phone late at night, collaborating with colleagues in different timezones 11pm or respond to emails 3 am in the morning e.g. Loosing lots of flexibility is the flipside of traditional pre internet way of working sending btw also a strong message of distrust to your employees. The only reason I can think of is to be able to slave drive employees and reduce staff levels.

Employee health program designed to keep people fit and active. With so many people near retirement wfh is like buying a bungalow.
