Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

HPE gives up performance ratings

This year, we say goodbye to performance ratings (Accelerating, Driving, and Stalled). Hello Continuous Feedback.

It appears it became too much of a burden to continue with employee performance ratings. It also makes no sense as pay raises usually don't happen even if you are in the highest rating. Many managers have more than 50 people reporting to them and with this new policy one can further reduce managers and give them a span of control of 100+

I wonder how this will work out.

There is nothing wrong with working for either HPE or HPI. Just don’t consider it a long term gig.

I retired from Hp 10 years ago and have been embarrassed watching the company flounder and continue to be pilfered by senior management there. The company has no vision anymore and is simply reactive year after year with continual downsizing. So sad they can not focus and grow a profitable business

Must have been a highly educated, high performer "What a waist of time" (waste)

I worked for HP for 11 years. What a waist of time. I finally left in 2009 when I realized that we were all just going to be laid off as our jobs were going to India and Costa Rica. Every Monday they had a Workforce Reduction. They called it "being WFR'd". Why anyone would want to go to work for this comapny...they must not have any real career aspirations.

Don't get your panties in a bunch... It's inevitable ... The company has become irrelevant. Just enjoy your time. Screw off as much as you can, no one's really watching, the managers are in the same boat. Chill, Good Luck to All!

Ah, but HP Managers and HR have the power and will use it to change your performance rating even after you received it and signed off on it. So, if you were rated high in a performance review, they could just go back in and readjust that to meet the criteria for the layoff. This way it does not look like they got rid of a high performer and could flush out the senior and high paying employees. This tactic has been used to layoff people in the past multiple times. If one tries to file a wrongful termination suit, they can just refer to the low performance rating to justify themselves. But without the performance rating they no longer have to go through this step. California is an At-Will state so they really do not need an excuse to get rid of you and could do it at-will when they please. Why anyone would work for this employee hostile company is beyond all logic.

screw them - I was accelerating in December, delivered record growth, and laid off in Q2 - because we needed to scale. And sales promptly fell...

Speaking of HP, HPE, and lawsuits, this may be of interest...

HP and Hewlett Packard Enterprise will pay a $25 million settlement to salespeople who sued over messed up pay

Were the lawsuits based on wrongful termination of high performers?

This is to avoid law suits from employees for wrongful termination. Cisco did it about 6-7 years ago.

There are no low performers at HPE. There are only low lifes who post insensitive remarks.

But who will the low performers blame now?

I bet this new system whatever it is, is going to be even more brutal for the employees. The HR and the company in general is being run by old school management types. No thought leaders in this company. You might hear some sugar coated employee programs being touted now and then. When it comes to Salary and bonuses, they corner most of the board approved money to upper management and to their cronies in the lower levels.
