People are conflating concepts here. Sears picked Abacus to liquidate their inventory and fixtures, same as they've been doing for 14 years now. Sears has been undergoing this kind of liquidation for years as it has closed thousands of stores, and as mentioned, Abacus has already liquidated 800 Sears stores, more stores in fact, than still exist today. That insiders have leaked this is NOT a good look for Eddie's bid, and it looks like Sears is taking proceeding forward with plans for a total liquidation. However, this is entirely a different thing from liquidating Real Estate, Intellectual Property, intangibles and the rest, which is still up for grabs.
