What sort of a company lays people off on Xmas Eve, and yet continues to hire? There are 166 jobs being advertised on Glassdoor. Sungard is an absolute shi****e.

Companies don't just fall off the edge. That is nonsense. If that is true then half of Pune will be unemployed. LOL.
Stay and force them to pay you in the next layoff. Make it cost them.
If they declare bankruptcy they don’t need to pay severence ...we have a loan payment coming up that they more than likely won’t be able to make ....
There will ALWAYS be a severance or they will have to justify it as as being fired. And it is almost impossible to justify firing.
So just force their hand and make them pay for the layoff, there are a ton of jobs waiting - and you get a nice chunk of money and also Cobra pay.
Don't make their job easy, make them pay you to leave. They don't want US employees, make it cost them more money than they will save by offshoring. Remember layoffs take time and resource expense, yank them.
Any guesses when the next round will
Be?
Actually it was t he 23rd they were all in the US all Virtual Office jobs that will be rehired from outside the US. More to come. This is no longer in American company they're looking to hire anybody that's cheaper and has to pay less benefits to save money.
you risk staying and assuming there will be $$'s to pay severance. Better to find a job when you have one, then when you don't. Good luck to all.
If this is proven to be true I have a different opinion.
I would say don't quit, make them get rid of you and pay you for it. Don't make their job easy.
Think about it, if this is true the only reasonable intent would be to trigger attrition. There is no normal human in the world that would target anybody on ANY holiday. But maybe I am naive and HR at Sungard has totally lost their souls. Who knows.
Can anybody verify this to be true?
If it is true then just get out of that place if you haven't been laid off yet. Because at this point it has become just a matter of 'yet'. You can't win against the obvious. Move on with life and be happy.
Nobody ever stopped him in the street to say, with gladsome looks, "My dear Scrooge, how are you? When will you come to see me?" No beggars implored him to bestow a trifle, no children asked him what it was o'clock, no man or woman ever once in all his life inquired the way to such and such a place, of Scrooge. Even the blind men's dogs appeared to know him; and when they saw him coming on, would tug their owners into doorways and up courts; and then would wag their tails as though they said, "No eye at all is better than an evil eye, dark master!"
