Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Union Gas STIP payout

Enbridge Gas Inc directors have completed their org charts and will be sharing them next week. So what does this mean.

If your role is not represented under the new org chart, you'll be targeted for layoff or walked out the door at the end of this month. If you are not employed as of December 31, you will not be entitled to your short term incentive payout. Not sure how it will work if you've taken vacation til the end of December and are laid off.

This would be a really, really S****y thing to do with loyal employees who contributed to any targets and performance scorecard metrics. but nothing surprises me anymore.

Directors and VPs are making decisions this week but changes won’t happen until Q1 2019.

If you work for UG or EGD, this stuff hasn't really been a secret, (although they aren't broadcasting it either)..so talk to your people leader for the most up-to-date info rather than putting too much stock in the online gossip. Absolutely nobody close to the situation is saying ...or has ever said... anything major is happening in December. Major reorgs are prohibited due to th Workday freeze. As for other areas of the company, people in Shared Services who support the utilities (eg- certain people and teams in IT, HR, Procurement, etc) will be impacted by the amalgamation of UG and EGD, but I'm not sure about the timing for that.

Anyway, about the Company Forum, isn't that at the same time every year? I doubt AM scheduled it specifically to coincide with utility layoffs... That's just his standing appointment for the executive team to embarrass themselves with "beauty and the beast" style baffoonery and exchange gifts with each other while talking about austerity.

Will the new layoffs pertain only to the gas distribution side of Enbridge’s business? Or will other business units also be affected?

The 80-90% majority of all layoffs and retired off packages will be completed by Feb 15th.

As stated previously so the company wide town hall can boast of the new strategy to save this ailing company.

The new vision will be with less on lookers on Feb 26th.

I am sure of it. Period.

Has anyone heard anything? I thought directors would be making g organization decisions this week? Nothing new yet??

Layoffs will happen in January and February as there's a company-wide town hall scheduled for AM to crow about all of the company's successes (read layoffs and asset sales) and how all these brilliant moves have reduced Enbridge's debt and increased its attractiveness to investors. If that's the case why is the stock price in the toilet. Oh the stock is undervalued.

Sadly, we are actually achieving savings from those kinds of decisions. Cheap labor is the order of the day.

I don’t think most directors/managers would let a high performer go over a so-so one just to save $10-$20k. If we’re actually entertaining savings from those kinds of decisions, then our company is definitely doomed.

It's not all about performance. If you are amongst the highest paid in your department based on your seniority, you are also a target. It's about the bottom line.

Yes... timing of the layoffs hasn’t been a secret for the people who actually work at UG, so not much point in speculating. Everyone should know the approximately timing for their own department reorganization (if you haven’t heard, just ask your manager). As sh--ty as Enbridge is, I doubt they’re going to trick us when It comes to the layoff timing....I think it will happen exactly like they’ve been saying all along... when your department is ready to go (earliest sounds like Feb), those getting laid-off (including the people putting their hand up for retirement), will get walked down to HR and presented their package, then will leave immediately - no going back to your desk. Later that day, the org structure will be emailed out. It s---s, but it is what it is. If you are considered a high performer, you probably are safe. If you’ve been getting low or just so-so performance evaluations for years and haven’t improved and haven’t shown a willingness to improve, now is unfortunately when that will catch up to you... You aren’t going to be safe just because there isn’t a duplicate role at Enbridge... they will use this as an opportunity to clean house. So make your plans and don’t let yourself be blindsided. And if you’ve been waiting to get bought out and retire, collect email addresses now if you want to arrange your own retirement party or have a friend do it. Sorry, I know it s---s but I see too many people oblivious to what’s about to happen...

Layoffs, when they hapoen will most likely start in the first quarter of 2019, assuming they follow the Spectra model.

Layoffs are coming, but doubtfully in December. I suspect whoever wrote the original post doesn't even work at UG because the timing of the next level of reorgs hasn't been a secret. In my department, it's happening in February.

because of the workday freeze there will not be any major re-orgs or shake ups until after the freeze in January. I doubt the shake up is coming in December simply due to this fact.

STIP will be prorated

So happy I do not work for anything associated with Enbridge or Spectra anymore. Sleeping well except for the occasional nightmare that I am working there again.

I too was laid off in 2017 and got a prorated STIP. If you get laid off and they try to tell you that you that you don't get any STIP, I would be questioning that.

Good luck to Union Gas employees. As a former Spectra employee, it was an ugly time and it probably will be the same for you guys, sorry to say.

I'm speaking from experience as I was laid off earlier this year.

You will get your STIP but it will be prorated. If you used all of your vacation days and you get laid off prior to the end of the year, you will have to pay back the time as an adjustment to your final pay cheque.

For those that get laid off. It s---s. Take some time to reflect (but not too much time; I took a 2 months). Then get out there and find a better job. It worked out for me. The biggest thing is to trust in your own abilities. You will be fine. Good Luck to you all.
