Thread regarding ShopKo Stores layoffs

Severance?

What kind of severance is being offered by Shopko to people in closing stores? I know what the official package is supposed to be like, but it would be great to have confirmation from somebody who knows first hand.

Also, who is eligible for it? Is it just full-timers? It would be nice to know in advance, just in case.

A week before store #73 closed. we were told that we would not get severance pay even though we signed papers.

We were told that we would get out retention bonuses....which we did.....but would not get our severance pay. We closed in March. But out of the blue last week we received our severance pay. No idea it was even coming just showed up in my account. Listed on ADP as severance pay.

We were promised severence and signed paperwork for such by employees in IA and MO. We were told on last day of employment, "No severence." A fine thank you for staying till closing!

Do you really think some other company would hire Russ and/or Jim? Maybe those optometrist will do the right thing and walk out. That sure what bs Russ and/or Jim are telling them, but they are still seeing patients and lining Russ and Jims pockets.

So I'm seeing and hearing, not from Shopko as that would be the right and ethical thing to do, that severance and other payments are being made to former employees of some states but not others. Considering who is making the choice of who is getting paid, those of us left in the dark really are left with the choice to just accept this cherry picking and or random paying of former employees or band together to hit the news cycle and expose Russ, Jim and the like for who they really are. It doesn't seem likely that we could affect their pocket books through litigation, as they appear to be insulated with lawyers paid with our severance dollars, approved by the court. So seeing their names in the news cycle, for all potential companies they may try to scurry off to, maybe they can feel the pain of no income for a while. Shame on all of you who perpetuated this disaster, spread the misinformation and took that bigger salary rather than do what was right. You know who you are.

Replying to my initial post, which I copied down below. Just got my severance and final 2 days of pay in a single deposit on 5/10/19.

I worked at the West Bend, WI store and closed on April 22nd. That very day, we got an email saying that Phase 1-3 stores (that got and signed off on the severance agreement paperwork) will for sure be getting them. Phases 4-7 won't. Strangely, our store is Phase 4 but still got the Severance Agreements so it looks like my own severance is still up in the air but Phases 1-3 just might get theirs.

I got the second half of my severance on April 26th, a little surprised, but it is welcome. I was in phase 3 , don know if that made a difference. Hope everyone that worked so hard will get it also.

$900,000 severance approved for the people who bankrupted the company and caused all of us, who actually put money in the bank, to lose our job.

Also, suggesting Sun Capital only pay back $15 million of the $179 million they took, something doesn't smell right. The Attorney General of Wisconsin needs to look into this. Especially considering all the taxes owed to the State.

all I got was the $1 an hour extra bonus so far and I was a phase 1 store that closed on March16th. the retention was supposed to come within 30 days of the last check yet we got it on our last paycheck which was the 29th of March and it was taxed 25% .

I talked to the director of HR a few weeks before we got the retention bonus and I will say she was very nice and called me personally after I emailed her and let me know the retention bonus was approved by the courts that was two days after they filed for chapter 7, at that time she said they were waiting for the bankruptcy court to approve the severance package.

I have yet to see anything and didn't even expect to see the retention. she did tell me however, even if I signed the paperwork and sent it in but never get the severance payment I could still file a claim through the bankruptcy court for it. so that is one option we could all do .

They had our store open a extra two weeks which I choose to only work two days each weekend I was full time feeling as I probably wouldn't be paid for those extra two weeks even since

I knew it was fishy we were staying open longer with the chapter 7 deadline around the corner. i knew damn well they would be filing for chapter 7 at the deadline as i followed the court site each day to keep up with what was going on, especially with the emails we kept getting acting as though everything was going so smoothly. give me a break as though we can't read between the lines of fakeness and not all of us are that naive not to mention dont know how to use Google. ha! thankfully I landed a great job with great pay back in a bigger city where I grew up in and wanted to move back to for the last 5 yrs but I do feel for all of you wondering if you will see any money while still working for these crooks.

Class action, if someone could get a lawyer to take up the case against a bankrupt company. Plenty of documented misleading, or worse, material from Green Bay team. At the very least it could delay payments to others while it worked it's way through. Also, objecting to docket #1060, the corporate severance package. Maybe if they don't get paid, it may loosen up the purse strings. So disappointed in the blatant dishonesty, that still is communicated to the Teams currently in the stores actually making the money that pays the creditors.

Is there anything that can be done for employees in phase one that signed severance agreements and didn't receive them

Vacation was deleted and not paid out. Severance has never been requested for employees, contrary to the posted assurance from the Shopko Today FAQ's. Only severance requested from the court was for the 64 corporate employees for just under $1,000,000. You can see the request on Shopko Prime Clerk docket #1060.

I contacted Human Resources and was told that because “they’re in the liquidation phase of bankruptcy, severance pay had to be approved by the bankruptcy court.” I was told that there is no timetable regarding a motion regarding reinstating severance pay and to ‘have a nice day’. I think the HR person was ordered to tell that to anyone who inquired. Thus, I don’t think there will be anymore severance payments..,.

What a joke, no severance pay. I knew from the start they were just baiting employees to stay for that. They just want people there to clear out the warehouse. How sad & what an insult for those hardworking employees. C-ap in Shopko !

I was an optometrist with Shopko for 21 years. We haven’t been offered anything. I’ll be leaving shortly.

Hopefully I’ll be reading about the Sun Capital owners going to jail, or even better Hell, for gutting and bleeding out a fine company.

Interesting .. Store employees $1 extra for retention til the end ? Spectrum America offered a retention amount to the Boise warehouse employees in the amount of .50 per hour !! How cheap is that ? & 2 weeks severance even for the ones who'd been there 20, 25, 30 yrs. AGAIN how cheap is That !?!?!

I worked at Shopko for about 8 years in Provo Utah. Don't take the severance deal if they offer it you will regret it. After taxes it amounts to almost nothing you would be better off just collecting unemployment.

Should I be looking for a new job? I’ve been with ShopKo for 18 years and I’m worried. Everyone at our store is. Management is being hush hush about everything. I feel like it’s the quiet before the storm. Everyone is pretending that nothing is happening. I’m going crazy.

I was part of Round 1 or round 2 of the Shopko Severance packages. It was humiliating after all of the years I put in . Hourly employees were given two weeks pay, payable if they stayed to the end. And that's two weeks pay no matter whether you've been there a month for 31 years

I’m a store manager for a store in liquidation.. mine was $8,000 bonus if I stayed till the end and months pay.. regular employees depending on their time got a week pay or $1 extra per hour for every hour they work till the end.. but you had to work till the closing day to get any..
