Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Arctic Circle Cruise

You’re in the band on the sinking Titanic, and yet you play on. The Captian is urging you to continue playing the same tired song while the ship sinks, so you play on. You’re watching your fellow crew abandon ship in lifeboats one after the other, and yet you play on. The inevitable seems far away as you play your familiar, comfortable instrument. The music is punctuated by the commands of the incompetent Captain as he yells “Full speed ahead!” to an increasingly empty ship. And you play on. The last of your former crew sails away into the distance on the last lifeboat, never looking back to check on the foolish band who still plays on.

Did those throw overboard get useable lifejackets or just a shell of a recently recycled lifejacket, gently used just twice before ?

A chilling posts of cold unseen dangers. Beware the napping captain, the reckless purser and the hired H1B deckhands.

-bec: Then you truly, truly don't get it. But you will.

You think by hanging on as a seat moistener in Sector 7-G at Qualcomm is helping those who are jumping ship? You must be one of the leeches willing to sell your self respect while you s__k the company dry and you rest & vest. Likely due to having zero marketable skills, too old to learn new ones, and far too comfy living in Carmel Valley to even think about relocating. Ugh, change is so hard, amirite? Do you think your family is proud of you for that? You just keep fiddlin' then, chum.....p.

-dnp. Is the band foolish for playing their part is saving the women and children.

Maybe we all get different things out of life /reading.

Some people are meant to be players in the band and others saved/jump ship.

Is one more foolish than the other?

Seems self servicing to talk about and compare in that way. I would argue it was a foolish thought to start.

-qeq Your reading comprehension is poor. First, nothing you read said the captain left the ship. The real captai of the Titanic went down with the ship, unlike SM who will have a golden lifeboat all to himself.

Second, clearly you’re missing the point of the OP. Both traits exactly what I would expect from the last of those hangers on left at the Q.

I don't think the Titanic applies, that entire ship was lost. This is more like that boat in a James Bond movie that would ditch a big part of itself sacrificing the expendables while the important people get away in a smaller craft.

Coherent until the end. Captains don't get on lifeboats until all the women and children are safe.

Glad you are safe! Look back on the crew or band fondly. There will be a movie about them one day.
