Thread regarding Allscripts layoffs

What's going on???

Do we know if layoffs are done at Allscripts? Have all the people who are being laid off already been notified or will this be a prolonged thing that will last for days or weeks?

There's so little information available all around that it's making me really nervous.

I would really appreciate any info on this.

All In apparently translates to All India. Paul Black and Tim Quigley should consider their catch phrase...or move to Pune!

Any company that tells you that onshore and offshore teams are equally valued is lying through their teeth. The indians hold the winning hand always. Longterm employees how have built marketable products over years will never be able to compete. Just like the majority of companies selling systems to hospitals, product success is sabotaged by incompetent executives. The biggest losers are the businesses stupid enough to believe the market hype around how this it that product is going to be the breakthrough that changes everything. That will never happen until executives get cut first.

Severance only 1 week per year of service. Old MCK folks know that is worse than if MCK had canned them.

Allscripts has been in layoff mode for quite a while now. They average two major layoffs a year. Any North American position that can be offshored will be as soon as they can. The C suite said it On an All hands call and every action since has supported this.

If you are still there, look around. Are the people that started at the same time still around? How about your mentors? Are you the most senior person now? Are they asking you to train your counterparts in Pune?

Just remember when you fill out your PMRP and have to declare that you are “ All In” that the C suite isnt telling you that they are All In for you.

A lot of the impacted were former MCK. There are maybe 15 - 20% left from the ~1700 that came over.

The tenure for the majority of the MCK people was 13+ years. It was a cost savings to let them go as their salaries and PTO were more expensive than the legacy Allscripts teams.

Some background first: Out of an overall group of 50 or so people, six got whacked during the most recent purge. All of them were informed last Friday and we were told that every one of them got a two-week notice, last day December 14th. A lot of those people are "dark" on IM, although not all, so they may have been "cut off" already and are just getting paid for the two weeks.

It looks like the cuts were made without respect to performance, but may have had some element of seniority factored into it, hard to say. Like every other purge that goes on the workload of the purged is now being randomly spread out across other staff that, due to prior cuts, are already wearing multiple hats and workloads. Who is going to do particular tasks or even consideration of what all the tasks may be never seems to be a consideration during these layoffs.

To answer your question: There may be some additional purging after the New Year. The best guess I have is based on two factors. First, upper management clearly stated to expect "more changes to be announced in January". That was a fairly blatant statement by all reckoning.

Second, there is still a considerable overlap in personnel positions from legacy Allscripts and new acquisitions so it's pretty much been assumed that there's going to be additional pruning once consolidation of resources and "cross-training" are completed to the satisfaction of upper management. Note that actual cross-training and product knowledge are not really a consideration, they just want to be able to check the box that says "these groups got together for a meeting and we're going to call that cross-training". How the actual positions are going to perform the increased workloads and at what skill/quality level are not usually a consideration FYI. In cases where there is duplication of a function, expect the higher-paid/more senior position to be eliminated is also standard operating procedure.

The way I understand it is that at least for this particular layoff, its done. Those affected should have known by last Friday.
