The cons of being in a union:People know how to abuse the system. There is so much abuse, because people know all the loopholes and know they can’t really be fired unless they do something completely inappropriate. I know someone who spent most of her time at work doing personal tasks (like printing cookbooks off the internet, or reading celebrity gossip websites). I know someone else who requested vacation days, got denied, and just didn’t show up for those days anyway. Neither of them got fired, or even disciplined. It rewards employees that might not deserve to be rewarded. Even if you put in minimal effort, it’s nearly impossible to get fired. You get your pay grade steps regardless of how hard you work. I found this demoralizing and it made me want to put in less effort, since 1) I would get a raise regardless of how hard I worked, and 2) the person next to me did nothing most days, and still got paid more than me for the same job.It can hold you back. Because seniority plays such a huge role in unionized environments, sometimes the best person for the job gets passed over because they don’t have enough seniority. So I feel like unions can stunt a good employee’s professional growth. Although, I’m only talking about my experience in an office environment. I’m not sure if that’s the case in every organization

Hey tech 666, Oakland is not ATS so that being said we are NOT contractors. We didn’t become sheeps and buy into the BS like u did and give ur soul to the ATS Devils. We actually put up a fight and we’re happy now.
Hey Mr 66 and your not did you sign for Ats for that 2% Jordan money.
Hey dum dum u r a contractor 😅😂🤣
The seniority comment is not true here in Oakland. We still get raises according to performance. Senority only pertains to layoffs which would prob not happen any time soon. According to our contract, contractors must go first
It could be worse! You could have the performance and the seniority and still get passed up by someones friend or family member. Which was the cablevision way with no one to go to but HR, which was completely useless. That's most of our experiences at optimum which is even more demoralizing. At least with a union you could help put some structure into the promotion process and grieve a situation you feel unfair. Seems like right now there's nothing. Doesnt even seem like they're doing interviews. Its pretty much who ever raises their hand and is in the right place at the right time. And even those people are getting nowhere. They're just underpaid helpers
Never thought things could get so bad with Altice. Guys have to come together and finally be Union strong. The company could contract out all work either way. Union has political influence! Not that unions haven’t failed but it’s worth a shot cause we have no leg to stand on. At will employee!!
The real problem without unions is that it empowers the minority (workers) over the majority (their customers). It's why they fail time and time again. Ask the Soviet Union and every other country with Union in their name, and the dying Unions across America. Consumers vote with their wallets.
Winning companies over time have cut pensions, and wages, and profit sharing plans, and everything else to operate at razor thin margins, eventually moving their manufacturing to low wage countries. Even that's not good enough as they remove the human element altogether and try to mechanize everything they can, as robots don't need wages or health care. It's why Walmart and Amazon are beating everyone else.
