Thread regarding Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC (DCEH) layoffs

Who Do You Blame?

That's easy. I blame Admissions. Low down hucksters one step above car salesmen masquerading as higher education professionals, walking around campus telling other departments how to do their job while they don't know their a-- from their elbow. And worse, straight up lying to young people and their families and not being honest how truly c-aptastic things are. Thieves. Con men. Anyone that works in that department should be ashamed.

You have just started looking for a new job?

And you pray they stay open until Feb 1st.

With those two statements you sound like the poster thing for the pathetic creature you are.

You know, maybe DCEDH should have walked away form this deal over a year ago. Then all our troubles would have been over in over last February (or sooner) when EDMC declared bankruptcy. You know EDMC was to have paid DCEDH an agreed upon amount to take over and salvage this place but, EDMC did to DCEDH what they did to all their vendors - stiffed them. So, not sure how much longer our doors will be open - but, I am praying we can make it past Feb to be 1 year past the EDMC implosion. Like many of you, I have started to look for employment elsewhere but hold out the smallest of hope DCEDH survives all this and the snipping that is internally tearing us apart. More than a paycheck!

“but I am not throwing in the towel” is a nice sentiment.

It is out of the hands of employees. There was a plan inplace before the sale, DCEH applied for business licenses to operate in various states January 2017, long before employees were made aware of an impending sale by edmc.

June 29, 2018 would have been the end of many AU and Ai but state doe, attorney generals, accreditation agencies stepped in and blocked closings.

All schools have filed for bankruptcy independently not as a part of EDMC.

It is no fault of any employee or even group. The dean always blamed admissions and admissions blames marketing, faculty blame administrators and advisors faculty.

This is all about greed, intentionally causing schools to fail through poor management, and it seems creating a series of shell companies to filter money to BR, RB, DCF executives and even AofG.

I blame all of us who have been just showing up to get a pay check and not trying to better the place for our coworkers, faculty and students. Yes, I was one of them at first but now (hopefully not too late) I really want to see this place make it. I have friends who work here and friends who have their children in some of our programs. It might be too late but I am not throwing in the towel.

"They have trained the students to think they are shopping at Walmart instead of earning grades in college."

"...in college..."he said with a straight face.

The issue is the advisors— they contact the faculty as soon as a student whines about a grade or wants to take a week vacation. They have trained the students to think they are shopping at Walmart instead of earning grades in college.

It's dysfunctional to have Admissions calling students that owe money - not to mention a FERPA violation. The only people that should know about that history is the financial department.

Plus what the heck makes admin think students can pay just because an Admissions person calls them now - that's ridiculous.

These students should file a complaint with FERPA

“This week they asked us to stop doing admissions and to start calling students that have not paid the school and owe money.“ I can only imagine the tongue lashings received by disgruntled students. But that sounds exactly like an Ai move or DCEH in general. Hiring people for one job then changing the role when you’re stuck in the position. “Faculty” and “academic counselors” are merely customer support now. There is no teaching or real counseling, just outreach to missing and failing students.

Administrators have always blamed admissions for the c-ap hodgepodge of student flotsam and jetsam. ACs and facilitators have always been told it was an admissions decision. It is just sad when you can’t trust your employer.

Not accurate the admissions department doesn’t make the GPA requirements or decides which admissions essays are acceptable. That comes from academics admissions gives tour, goes over the curriculum, cost and the horrible graduation, debt and salary information. Take ownership for your failures on the academic side.

This week they asked us to stop doing admissions and to start calling students that have not paid the school and owe money. They don’t even care about being in more students, they just want to get their money and close down. That Jason from corporate admissions has said and done so many illegal things, im just waiting for accedidaton to come in and shut us down.

I no longer work at an AI school but I completely agree with you. There were some at my school that worked there for years. In order to do that job, they have to have no touch with reality. They truly believe that that person with the . 07 gpa that can barely write a complete sentence will be a success. 80k later in debt reality hits. These admissions people drink the koolaid and take home a pay check
