Staples Inc has confirmed the departures of two long-serving senior executives from its North American operations.
Company veteran Steve Matyas is to leave Staples after 27 years. Matyas began his Staples career in 1991 when he became the first employee at Business Depot in Canada, which at that time was a joint venture between Staples and a number of investors.
Matyas later went on to become President of Staples Canada, a role he held for 16 years before taking on the job of President of North American Retail in 2016. He has been focused on the US Retail division following Staples’ acquisition by Sycamore Partners in 2017.
The other departure is that of Mike Zahra, President of Staples Business Advantage in Canada. Zahra joined Corporate Express Canada in 2002 and was named President in 2007. He then became President of Staples Advantage (later Staples Business Advantage) in Canada following the Staples’ acquisition of Corporate Express in 2008.
In a short statement to OPI, Staples Inc confirmed that both executives “are leaving”, but declined to provide further details.
These latest departures come shortly after Neil Ringel, the President of Staples Business Advantage in the US and another company veteran, also left the company.
