Thread regarding NCR Corp. layoffs

NCR Global Sales massive Layoff

Yesterday ( 11/29/2018) , me and over 60 other people were laid off. With the new "5 days a week" rule , many people were forced to quit .Those who did not , got their severance package ready. NCR is replacing older, long term employees and replacing them with younger kids from the college across the street.

They are also eliminating USA positions to send them to Serbia in which the average salary of an individual is $12K a year or $5.75 per hour.

Yesterday layoff was massive! Over 60 people dialed in to a conference call with Dan Campbell and he delivered the message " as a part of NCR strategy and revenue growth, I regret to inform you that your position with NCR has been eliminated and your employment with NCR will end today"

Many of them were in business travel and were cut just like that.

NCR wants to shed the high salaries and replace them with under 32K a year

How is any of this a surprise? Didn't the previous CEO pen an article before leaving (for health reasons) in late 2017 basically saying that if you are white, above the age of 30 and don't live close to the new facade...I mean Headquarters...you need not apply at NCR?

I also was part of that RIF, almost blew off the call as Dan Campbell has never had anything to say that I cared about. I had 40+ years flushed in just a few hours. As normal upper management screws up and the “worker bees” pay the price.

I got moved from Atlanta to Columbia South Carolina for the new center of excellence. They squashed that plan after moving a lot of us here. The following year peach tree was name the new center of excellence and Columbia eventually faded away. Bad management and planning.

Let me tell you, when NCR decided not to produce hardware in the US and outsourced jobs to India, Serbia and the Philippines what else could you expect. Moving from Ohio to Georgia was to shake off veteran employees and not long afterwards the pension plan was killed. The next step was to move to downtown Atlanta by Georgia Tech and hire unpaid interns or pay less than half what they paid other employees. Just look what happened when the folks from Digital Insight were merged into the company. Heck ask the people that worked in Peachtree City what happened to them or the folks in Columbus. Most of them left, got forced out or have kept their jobs because there's no place to go. This is the plan- if you're over 30, you have to go. Too expensive to keep and millennials will take these jobs just to get experience. This is a software company....and why keep people who'd move to keep a job or even thought they could start a family when you have an endless stream of young people literally across the street who you'd have to train and later be replaced by. Hard to foster loyalty that way. Don't expect HR to help, they side with the company, not the employees. Better dust off your resume now.

Michael Hayford has nothing to worry about, he and his family will have a nice Christmas here is his salary breakdown ......In connection with his appointment, the Company and Mr. Hayford entered into a letter agreement, dated April 27, 2018, under which he will receive an annual base salary of at least $1,000,000, and participate in the Company’s Management Incentive Plan with a total annual cash target bonus opportunity of 150% of his base salary. For the 2018 year, Mr. Hayford’s cash bonus will be no less than the pro-rated portion of his target bonus amount. He will also receive new hire equity awards of stock options with a total award value equal to $2,500,000 (the “Sign-On Options”), stock options with a total award value equal to $5,000,000 (the “2018 Options”), and time-based restricted stock units with an award value equal to $5,000,000 (the “2018 RSUs”), with each such award being the subject of a separate grant agreement. He will also be eligible for future annual equity grants under the Company’s Long-Term Incentive Program which, for each of 2019 and 2020, will include awards with an aggregate value of no less than $10,000,000, and which, for 2019, will be increased to a minimum of $12,500,000 if NCR’s common stock trades at $40 per share or more for at least fifteen consecutive trading days during the period from May 1, 2018 through February 15, 2019. Mr. Hayford will participate in the NCR Executive Severance Plan with a separation benefit of one and one half times (1.5x) his annual base salary and target bonus (as defined in the plan) in the event of a qualifying termination, and will participate in the Amended and Restated NCR Change in Control Severance Plan with a “Tier I” benefit level. In addition, if Mr. Hayford is terminated without “cause” or resigns from NCR voluntarily for “good reason”, the unvested portion of the Sign-On Options, 2018 Options and 2018 RSUs will immediately vest, and the Sign-On Options and 2018 Options will remain exercisable until the earlier of the first anniversary of the termination of his employment and the option expiration date. Mr. Hayford also will be entitled to certain other perquisites, including limited personal use of corporate aircraft. The agreement also contains customary employment terms and conditions, and in-term and post-term restrictive covenants applicable to Mr. Hayford.

All part of the ncr transformation from a hardware to software only company. But they sure screw their employees. Look on Glassdoor for Ncr Serbia, even the Serbia folks are now jumping ship due to lower pay than other companies

Ashamed they get away with it. tthey want older folk gone for sure. Top priority is reduce pension plan. New hire dont get pension options. With all the layoffs it probaby time for ncr to offer pension buyouts again sometime next year

I too was part of that layoff. Shocking it happened before the holidays, and that our insurance ended immediately.
