Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

QC offer..

Likely to get an offer, wanted to check and reading the posts and some research on other sites;

  1. Is it a good time to join

  2. What are the vacation policies , 2 weeks or 4 weeks ( I am 10 years experience )

  3. 401k match ? ( Texas inst has a pretty good match )

  4. How are the medical benefits ?

Have few other offers ,want to compare and dont want to be undersold by HR

Thanks in advance

If you don't want benefits and good salary , please join to help balance the headcount ...

If you have other offers, do not come to QCOM.

QCOM today is totally different from what it used to be. Very bad work environment. Zero work life balance. Stagnant stock. Unstable. Uncertain future.

You can negotiate. Milk the max if you plan to join. Recommend start at at least 50k.

Ask for a signing bonus at a minimum.

5G is the focus and hope all will make money. Therefore check out all companies and join the one that will make money. Qualcomm, maybe. Talk to the HR, they might be eager to guide you on the future prospects.

If you are dumb enough to join Qualcomm considering how much is publicly know and anonymously shared on this site. Then you are the biggest dumba$$ in the world and deserve every horrible thing that will happen to your career if you join.

Good luck dumbf@ck. You’re going to need it.

The company lacks a competent management team, there are little to no processes/systems in place to do/learn your job, bloated org that is just resting/vesting waiting for their pink slip, each quarter benefits are reduced [dont expect merit increase, bonus or RSUs in future, only execs get those, health benefits not competitive], in the event you are in a group that actually works you will be infuriated by an empty parking structure at 3PM, toxic work environment [employees openly joke about who will be out by 2PM]. Strategic plan, there isnt one. Lots of talk about 5G and IoT but QCOM place and how to fund investment is anything but certain. The list goes on but I think you get the point, if you have other opportunities it is best to look elsewhere.

Agree with why take? This forum cannot be taken at full face but as a former I can tell you the apathy and lack of enthusiasm resonates heavily in most departments. Unless you find a really great pocket of a team and dept with focus and purpose the sheen will ear off in a matter of months, but I always enjoyed when we hired and trained someone and they didnt show up the next Monday:)

WHY take ?

I say:

TAKE THE JOB!

A good career f@ck up will give you something to do while while you contemplate b$tch slapping the person who advised you to take the job.

PS: you are a real dipsh@t for requesting career planning advice on this site.

Cheeeerio......dumba$$

OP: which department are you planning to join? Stay away from the PMIC VI. It is one of the worst departments in QCT.

To OP - Grass is greener elsewhere. It as simple as that.

I am a Qualcomm well wisher, but don't see a compelling reason for one to join anyways.

Join TI. They are positioned well for the future. Qualcomm's future is bleak.

Also, good luck affording a house in San Diego. Dallas is much more affordable!!

An old creaking ship taking on water with sailors bailing daily.

Work life balance long since gone.

Benefits now below industry average, healthcare continues to decline. Next year or 2020 will bring the "employee pays more premium" to "enhance the choice" (ha ha)

Otherwise, great opportunities for long days and frustrating management.

Company where work life balance is going south foretells the story. Simply put, sounds like management is milking the last drop from everyone. More work with less people to keep the bottom line, which is not sustainable.

This would mean, if you want to use this as a switch board in short term (if there are not good options at the moment), should be okay. Keep ears and eyes open all the time and continue to search.

The benefits are good and San Diego is a very nice location, but those are literally the only two upsides of working here (even the benefits have stagnated, really). Sh--ty work culture, sh--ty management, people are forced to work overtime/weekends, and vacation is 100% up to your manager's discretion.

If you can get a better (or at least equal) offer, do not work at Q.

In a nutshell, if you have other offers outside San Diego, go for it. You will get better culture, benefits elsewhere. Consider 401k , vacation, culture to make decision. Oh yes medical too.

@WlRGlIP-1wtw: Laughed hard at your reply. Next time, I'll pay closer attention and GTFO much earlier than I did.
