Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

The probation is an insult to hard working employees

This "probation" thing is an insult to the hard working employees that have worked so hard over the years to help build this company. Create a new standard that puts performing everyday employees in a stressful bind so the company can pretend they have an excuse to fire you. "You have always been a good employee, but now that we have made up a new numbers game of evaluation we are probably going to fire you because we have decided to now call you an "under performer" This company is telling us to leave. Listen to them and save yourself some heartache. You can't win when they have rigged the game.

Perfectly said, @VA3ek2O-Gtqq.

What was your payout? Don't need to know the dollar figures just amount of time you were there and how many weeks you got. Did you loose half to taxes? Did you work at the Boise site?

It is the start of a new year so your taxes will be lower as you will be making less. Make sure you put some money up from your unemployment as you will have to pay taxes on that come year end.

Go to the doctors and get checked out while you still have medical. Tell them what happened as if you are on any medication they might be able to change something so you can get your 90 day refill ASAP.

Shut off cable, cut cost as you never know what is around the corner. You will be fine but while you are not working you might as well be working to save money instead of spending it.

Another thing, enjoy your time off because it is going to take some time in your next new job to build up time off.

There seems to be a discrepency between five weeks and twelve weeks no matter what. Either way if you have been here any length of time, even twelve weeks is a slap. This place is so bad now, I will not be the last one to leave here. Its creepy to see all these hard working teams broken up with hard working employees being walked out while old lazy "uppers" stay.

After this layoff is over the deadwood will become more prominent. The old fat farts that have been here forever wandering through their day getting away with doing nothing because the have been here forever. There job here is to survive another layoff., and since that have survived they must be something special. There is nothing else they can do in their life so they will do anything for this company so they can stay .Pathetic to watch.

Good advice .Taxes are a big part of any package. Consider the tax responsibility involved in separation packages before you get the money, very important.

How come there are so many payouts going on but no one can answer this severance payout question with certainty? If I am at micron for 24 years and get the severance what will my payout be? 12 weeks? That is not very much and if you get it towards the end of the year you will make a lot more money that year and have to pay much more of it in taxes.

If you can control your leaving, move on during the beginning of the year as the first year you are gone you will make less money and have to pay less taxes.

The pay in this valley is very low... Sad micron is moving everything overseas.

There are layoffs at Micron every year this round is bigger than average with employees having already left and most of the rest leaving by August of this year. There is also everything in between, Severence pay out is less than has been in the past. After this round if you leave at some point don't expect much. So if you are planning on leaving soon whether by choice or not grab what you can or you may be left with nothing, Don't stay longer waiting for a big pay out.

I have heard that the number is five weeks as well regardless of years, but I don't know if that is true for sure.

@WhyJElY-kvga, the severance is 5 weeks pay no matter what.

@WhyJElY-kvga there is no "two months pay no matter what" included in this year's severance payout. The severance payout is strictly based on years worked. The severance paperwork I got in October has the following table describing the severance payout: less than 3 yrs worked gets you 5 weeks pay; 3 to less than 5 yrs worked gets you 6 wks pay; 5 to less than 6 yrs worked gets you 7 wks pay; 6 to less than 7 yrs worked gets you 8 wks pay; 7 to less than 8 yrs worked gets you 9 wks pay; 8 to less than 9 yrs worked gets you 10 wks pay; 9 to less than 10 yrs worked gets you 11 wks pay; 10 or more yrs worked gets you 12 wks pay.

Whatever the severance is it won't be near enough if you don't have another job. When you see how much they take out of the sum you think you are getting, your eyes will open very wide.

One week for each year worked severance payout? Wasn't there something like two months pay no matter what and then one week for each year worked?

There stock is at $36.00 a share. I wouldn't expect too much.

Another insult is the low severance payout this year: 1 week of pay for each year of service. In 2015 Micron offered a severance of 2 weeks of pay for each year of service. So says a friend who got laid off from Micron in 2015. I've heard 2 weeks per year is what most companies do.

Good employees don't want to apply to Micron because of all the "dead wood." Yes globally it is unfair that layoffs have been a fact of life for decades. But the culture at several companies in the Treasure Valley are not complying with the 21st century: Three Don't tread on me logos on one person at work, AR-15 stickers on raised trucks, blatant generational induced misogyny, and political grandstanding. Do you honestly think the rest of the world doesn't notice? Maybe finding the bottom of the bell curve (or the airport tarmac) will spin people off into the real world where bullying, and infantile hang-ups don't "fly." When a religious group attempts to own politics, education, and business, they've gone 3 steps beyond freedom. If everyone deserves to enjoy a happy and fulfilled life, who's the bully; who needs to go?

Lots have leave dates for mid December. Nice of Micron to cut them prior to the biggest holidays of the year. Way to go new Micron! I hope this new Micron gets taxed heavy for sending all the jobs overseas and screwing us in the USA.
