New medical benefits for adjuncts

So DCEH is offering medical benefits to adjuncts in 2019. Two plans - copay and high deductible HSA. As a new adjunct I am considering the offer but maybe Affordable Care Act is a better option. Price is same for full timers and adjuncts -but adjuncts only get medical - no dental, vision, life and disability options. Any opinions on which plan would be better?

That was funny. Argosy grad...Stay away from Obama Care and go to Affordable Care Act. Yes, I hope you all get that reference.

As a recent Argosy Ph.D. graduate from Argosy U. I would stay away from Obama Care and go directly to The Affordable Care Act Plan. It would be a better plan and very affordable.

The better plan is to work somewhere else. Community College pays almost twice as much. More than twice as much at some schools. Unless you are teaching at three or four different schools, you would be better off collecting unemployment and finding another school.

Obamacare isn't cheap and the co-pays and deductibles are outrageous. In 2015 $335 per month got you decent health insurance with low co-pays and low deductibles. Now it's over $900 a month with big co-pays and $5000 deductibles.

find another adjunct position -- dceh is making money off of this - that's why adjuncts are being offered the same healthcare as ftf - minus the benefits they probably won't make money from.

adjuncts are screwed anyway -- $1500 per class for 7 + students - most classes are 18 + some have 30 some have less than 7- adjuncts don't get paid more for 20 students -- but they do get docked for less than 7 students. The amount of work you have to do and the micromanaging headaches - not worth it.

both plans are horrible aca is better

How can the price possibly be the same for full time and adjuncts? That massive red flag would lead me to ACA. Any money to DCEH is likely to disappear into a black hole the moment they announce their next round of “ restructuring”...

I realize you gotta pay bills, but perhaps your plan should be to look for another employer.
