Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

Gartner Data Center Magic Quadrant Report places Juniper at par with Arista & Cisco

Way to go Juniper -- The Gartner Data Center MQ places Juniper almost at par with Arista. Cisco is the clear leader, but only Juniper and Arista are placed alongside Cisco on the top right, as a Visionary and a Leader.

Needless to say any positive news is is really good for Juniper these days. Morale is low and people are leaving or looking to leave. Arista is a big threat to Juniper and they are a huge threat in the Data Center space. They are also hiring many seasoned Sales/SE teams away from Juniper. Though the comments in this report are not glowing, they are marginally positive. It is interesting when these types of unofficially sponsored reports say something like "you should consider shortlisting a vendor for XYZ". This usually happens, when the products are not that great, but the vendor pays a sizable contribution to Gartner (by way of participating in their conferences and sponsoring the boondoggle parties and events etc). Also, the promise for 'self-healing networks' must have got Gartner interested, as it does sound 'next-gen' and visionary worthy.

The good news though is that many enterprises follow Gartner... and this is definitely a plus. Let's hope some improved sales from this can reduce some cuts moving forward.

Not Alex, it was his replacement that was let go - Andrew K. Alex requested a new assignment couple years ago as leading services was a 24x7 job. He is still around though leading a Business Operations team...the team has less than stellar results though...

Alex turned services around. RR wanted AG to do the same for quality, and improve the operationsl processes, and cut costs - all this, while keeping him away from being the next CEO. AG would turn juniper around if he gets the chance to do it. He is a much better leader than RR. RR knows this. The board knows this and will soon admit picking RR in a rush was a mistake.

Alex G has been let go?

He was the last hope to turn the company around.

There is no way in hell that those other BUs are going to make up for the bottom dropping out in routing. They are such a small % of Juniper sales and Juniper is not a top competitor in these. Services WAS one of the top selling product lines but they just laid off the leader.

Cisco troll or not, he/she makes some good points on the original post. I know the declining router marketshare in Telecom has hurt numbers but RR and his team has been focusing on (and saved by) an increase in sales in data center and switching as well as (of all things) security products!

Since the routing groups are the filled with lifers and old timers with little to no ambition left, and most of them are not productive anymore, they need to clean house in RBU first. So far however, these folks are rarely pushed out.. since RR has many friends there. But this will change. Once the next round of layoffs occur, juniper will become a much better place to work. The high levels of toxicity is in the heart of RBU. Once this is tackled, juniper will be as good a place as any in silicon valley.

OP must be a Cisco troll. We have self-driving networks(tm) at Juniper, not self-healing ones. 'Self-healing' is Cisco-speak, just like EMEAR instead of EMEA and IoE instead of IoT.
