really? rice is back to stir things up. he was weak when he was in charge of Power and then pushed to the lower business in favor of Krenicki. why bring him back now? and at what cost?

A truism, but LC needs generals on the ground; he cannot do it all himself. JR is very sharp, knows the current culture, has global connections, and understands the company is fighting for survival. Also, he can now lead outside of JI’s shadow.
BN knows the culture from the glory times and might be able to help bridge the gap. This knowledge may help here; but in all likelihood would fail – and indeed did – elsewhere. This culture is not portable.
The spin-off/CEO scenario proposed below is interesting and appears rather plausible.
Maybe LC is setting things up to spin off power. I do not see any reason why JR will be interested in getting back to GE other than getting the CEO job at an independent company.
Agreed, BN might be able to help.
Nardeli was fired by Home Depot after nearly wrecking that company and let go again as Chrysler was going belly up in 2009. Don't know how you convince him but John Krenicki would have been my choice but I suspect is making too much money in private equity. At least Rice knows the business, Stokes had no chance to get up to speed on the business and fix it given the speed needed. Another bad decision by Immelt to put him in that spot and on Flannery to leave him there as it became obvious how bad things were.
Disappointed to see Stokes survived the shake-up. They should have hired back Nardeli instead.
