I quit my job at McDermott and went for a better paying job a couple of months ago after a 6-year string and I have to say that it’s much easier to look at everything that is wrong at the company when you look from the outside. The truth is when you work at McDermott you get caught up in the entire atmosphere at the company and you start to conceive all the flawed policies and practices as regular everyday business.
At the time I was starting off the employees took pride in working for McDermott, but nowadays I'm afraid it has become a company driven by fear and an almost disgusting urge to make a profit at any cost. We all know that layoffs are now a phenomenon that occurs on a regular basis, so now we have a situation in which upper management spreads fear, middle management is afraid of upper management and lower management is afraid of middle management, and even HR acts like an extended arm of the leadership, as it spreads uncertainty and prevents transfers from department to department. All and all, I found that this atmosphere was not worth putting up with, especially for a lousy paycheck and reduced benefits.
