Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

Chaos and uncertainty

I’ve managed to work for Sungard for 4 years without getting laid off, but sometimes I wish that I was. The pressure of working every day with the thought that it could be your last is not an easy thing to cope with for years.

It’s obvious that the company lost its compass and with debt piling up by the day and no clear vision it’s hard to see a positive outcome or a sustainable future here. I mean who wants to be doing all that work that increasing by the day, as the people are leaving or getting laid off, and at the same time get reduced benefits and a c-appy salary. I am out of patience for things to start getting better, and frankly, at this point, I don’t even see a possibility of that happening. Think that I’m not going to wait to get laid off. It’s time to start looking for a new job.

Sometimes it depends who cronies up to management, not performance.

Get out of Sungard while you're in a job. It's way harder to find a job once you're out of employment. Be thankful, you've got time to prepare. Good people always leave companies that aren't performing...Make sure, you're one of them.

Amen Brother or Sister AS Anonymous! I've been around a bit longer than you and somehow I have avoided the RIF Axe over the past two years. I've seen many more higher performers than myself be asked to leave. The only thing I can figure out was their salaries went above a line as they were around for much longer than I. I've found myself especially over the last 6-months wishing I'd be RIF'd to stop the insanity. I've been actively looking for a while. While I don't think anything will happen come up this year with less than 45 days left. I've considered just throwing in the towel early next year. I'd take a job at 3/4 of the pay to leave this place.
