I'm former adjunct faculty at a school closing in December. I'm finding the job search difficult. What does anyone know about "Nano"? From an ethical standpoint, I understand every objection to it. Yet, I actually like paying things like my car payment and rent every month

I was a part of the NANO course roll out as an alumnus. I thoroughly enjoyed the online course in peer recovery and crisis intervention. A great deal of the information I knew already but it enhanced my learning from a previous degree program. I know nothing about the ownership of the business side of the school, but, it appears that they are all profiteers in one way or another. The exploitation of students in most universities is just one example. There are certainly enough people with and without degrees working for large corporations, its called hiring friends and family and some of those people are incompetent degreed or not, Your insults seem personal. Those of us who were invited to attend the NANO sessions were already with degrees.

"give students an edge" sounds an awful lot like a guarantee DCEH back up.

Just shows you how mo--nic these guys are. Exactly what the previous poster mentioned, just another way to siphon tax dollars in the name of the poor. Dream Center Foundation make its entire business leeching money from public funds, its all in theri tax filings.

You can do this for free from actually qualified, vetted instructors on edX. I mean for christ sake, a course on how to store digital photos, really? Get it right, these guys are vultures that have a niche on abusing public money for their own pockets its started back with TitleIV and now they have local money to go after, your tax dollars are literally making these guys rich. Don't put your entire career worth into this stuff people, that's exactly how they abused you to begin with. THERE ARE OTHER JOBS why you guys cry about just another sh-- company treating you poorly is dumb.

Why would you apply for a job to a school that's not going to be around?

Since when do you need a 4 year degree to work at Starbucks or Costco....? You don't need a HS diploma so...... Yeah. 'Nano degrees' are as BS as they sound.

For those who didn’t get the memo:

Introducing Nano Credentials

August 27, 2018

Colleagues,

On the path toward changing the face of higher education, DCEH seeks new and innovative ways to serve students’ needs. As a result of our focus on students and concentration on service, we are proud to introduce our new “Nano Credential” immersive learning experience.

DCEH’s inaugural Nano Credential offering provides students with an 8- to 11-week opportunity to focus on enhancing or developing professional skills to aid in their careers. The online, industry-infused curriculum is taught by experienced faculty members and culminates in a Certificate of Completion. Courses are skill-based and targeted to specific fields of study.

Nano Credentials give students an edge when working to meet employers’ demands for highly-skilled professionals. The flexible coursework delivers those skills without the time and cost associated with completing a traditional degree. Simply put, Nano Credentials are a way for professionals to give themselves an edge, keep pace with a rapidly-changing marketplace, and help their employers stay ahead of competition.

The Art Institutes and Argosy University alumni are being offered the opportunity to particpate in our inaugural Nano Credential courses that begin in October and include:

Social Media Marketing

Digital Photography and Image Management

Small Business Entrepreneurship Program

Mental Health Crisis Intervention

Addiction Peer Recovery Support Specialist

We are already reaching out to our alumni, making them aware of this new opportunity and offering them the chance to participate. I look forward to sharing their success with you in the weeks, months, and years to come.

Find out more about the inaugural Nano Credential coursework offerings in the Leadership Corner section of GoDCEH.

Sincerely,

T T

VP of DCEH Curriculum Center of Excellence

They were created to get a hold of state unemployment or reemployment funds since DCEH schools were losing accreditation and federal title IV funding. From another’s take on them:

They will not be as valid as a CEU. And what’s the point? Anything Ai or AU will teach as a nano credential can be learned for free elsewhere. Or available as a CEU at a fraction of the cost and time from a reputable source.

It is sad but DCEH will find people foolish enough to take nano classes and hire admissions staff disreputable enough to sell the class as having meaning. It is frustrating for honest people to see what a for profit posing as a nonprofit that really is still a for profit is doing to naive undereducated people just to access their borrowing potential.

(Do a search for “ DCEH nano” on this site)

The job description is as clear as DCEH can get as I’m sure they don’t understand themselves. That is the old instructor job description with a few nanos thrown in.

Nano credentials is what they told employees it would be called. They are 8 week short courses that originally were to certify the student for a topic like excel, word, photoshop, but with that description it could be for anything and nothing specific. They’ll probably make up whatever class they can sell a student or simply use an existing class that a photography student takes for the former Degree in it.

Does anyone believe “Industry leaders, including Google, Apple, Starbucks, and Costco are no longer requiring four year college degrees for applicants. Cutting-edge organizations are opening their doors to employees who have gained skills and experience through alternative pathways” is true?
