Thread regarding DST Systems layoffs

Who is looking for a new job?

Most of the people I know are already hunting down new jobs to get away from this mess. Is this a company wide thing?

I really hope it is, a mass exodus of employees might be what the DST management needs to realize they can't treat us the way they have been for the past several years without consequences.

I gave up looking, too, basically since I am over 50. Since the last big layoff last year, I've been looking and I can't find anything that pays what I am making now, unless I want to relocate and I don't want to move, I'm very happy where I live and at my age I don't want to start a new life all over again and moving is expensive. So I'm just going to ride it out and hopefully get another few years out of this company before I retire. If they lay me off, I'll deal with it, but for now, I'm just going to enjoy my job and my life.

New people being hired everyday to take your place. Things have settled in...no more layoff...agressive plans for growth. Leave if you want. The rest of us will be fine.

I been casually looking and have not found anyone that will pay what I’m making at dst and I can’t afford a pay cut so I’m still here.

Yep, I'm in this current job market after the summer layoff, entered a new field and am using my severance to subsidize my lower wages. Crossing fingers I'll be able to move up in the field after a year or so. Decent benefits, but as an older employee, it's a huge adjustment. They dump you close to retirement with a stretch to go and you have to reinvent yourself. That's life.

Someone just wants to believe that everything is and will be okay. That is fine, but many of us know that things are not okay.

You must be a sheep if you think the job market is good. Wages have not increased in years. Of course if you're talking about low-level jobs at places like retail and fast food, yeah, they are hiring and maybe you get a buck raise for leaving Burger King for Taco Bell. Try getting a Vice President job level or higher, these jobs are few and far between. Get a clue. And no, you don't jump ship during turbulent times like these as you can be laid off anywhere for any reason and if you are new your unemployment/severance will be less. Better to be at a company for longer and if you get laid off at least your severance and unemployment are better. And.... WHY are there still so may DST people at their jobs if the job market is so strong? Well? I thought so.... the job market is not strong and you are being lied to by the media like everything else.

Check back in a month and when the stawk market is in full collapse you will then see that strong job numbers are ALWAYS the last thing that is reported before it all goes bust.

Hope you're ready for what's coming... it ain't pretty.

Stop making excuses for not looking for a new job. Lets just call it lazy! Plenty of companies out there that are hiring despite what the financial markets are doing, Perhaps you are all brainwashed into thinking the job you currently have is as good as it gets. Guess what, it isnt. Get off the couch and get a new employer! Plenty of them out there. Better ones in fact. Its up to you, or not?

Another drop in the stock market today. Now it’s going to be even harder to find a job as companies have hiring freezes in bear markets.

Riddle me this...

If job growth and the economy are so “great”, then why are so many at DST finding it hard to find a better job? Seems like so many are looking, but not getting hired or even an interview. You’d think by now half the company would be leaving for better opportunities, given the constant rumors of layoffs.

Why?

I’ll tell you why...

The economy and “job growth “ numbers are not as great as they are reporting. i.e., they’re lying when they report such a strong economy with solid, positive job growth.

FWIW, filling a pt job at macdonalds is not an indication of a strong job economy.

Speak for yourself. I get treated great. I actually like what I do and have a great group of people to work with. No complaints here. You just got to do your job and shut your mouth. If you are that miserable, yes, please go look for another job.

Besides, I love my job. It’s actually the best gig I’ve ever had. I’ll work here forever if they let me. Love it here.

Nah. I’m mailing it in and watching this country go down the sh!tter. Why should I bother? It’s the same sh!t everywhere you go and now with the stawk market crashing it will only get worse.

LOL, good luck with that, no one is hiring, unless you want to take a pay cut.

I’m staying till the end. The world is not getting any better anyways, why bother trying to advance only to get sh--ty pay check and no guarantee of job security. FTS.

May also want to try to get a group together and pull a "Blue Flu" situation in which a number of people call in sick on the same day. We had a day in November where 5 of 7 called in sick our manager thought it was a joke when she realized people weren't showing I hear she was beyond p-ss-d
