People are saying at the office that there will be no reprieve for us and that more layoffs will take place as soon as second half of January. I keep hoping this is not true, but looking at history, this is more likely than not to happen.

They won't shut Schenectady down but I'm sure they will slow us and shrink us down as much as they possibly can in every way they can come up with.
It will be the plant closures that will be making the headlines this year. Once we lose the plant closure benefit in June we’ll be doomed by October or November.
It's true that saying "there will be a layoff soon" doesn't mean very much. If sometime in January a layoff does happen, no one can verify that it was 25% in engineering or 50% in France.

I remember when SEB posted about "rustle" doing a layoff in Power, and the very next day one of our highly respected Chief Engineers got the axe along with a drove of others. Say what you want about SEB, but he is often correct.

If there is no work, layoff will happen sooner or later. Company is not going to pay a bunch of people for not doing anything which is unsustainable. Does not take lots of smarts to understand that. OK?

You could run 273 with a team no larger then 30 people on the salary side. So it’s much needed
I am chief shop steward for 273 301 division of GE we will refuse to accept any layoffs we had a meeting with the Onion we won't accept any layoffs
Agree. The company has its need, we have ours, why not be prepared for ourselves and our families?
No one know the timing, but we all know more are coming...probably in Q1 and again in the summer. This seems to be the pattern.
I say don’t worry about it. It is beyond your control. Layoffs at GE are based on nothing more than whether your job becomes less important, or redundant in a reorg.
