How admissions works

All this BS from students about being lied to. Here’s how it really works.

  1. Student is presented all information about the program before applying. Including cost, time to completion, completion rate, job placement rate, default rates, and median student loan debt.

  2. Student applies and completes the FAFSA.

  3. Student talks with a finance counselor that shows a financial plan which details how aid will be used throughout their entire program. Student is advised about responsible borrowing and how taking the max amount will increase their debt Lon term for when they have to pay the money back.

  4. Student completes a college readiness course required by the state’s attourney’s generals. This covers time management, study habits, reading habits, organization, financial aid, and use of the online classroom.

  5. Student starts class. 5 week courses with 5 modules. They have typically 1 discussion and 1 paper due per week. They are required to attend class at least one day per week but are explicitly told that 1 day a week will most likely not lead to success.

From there it is up to the student. There is no duping or made up garbage to get them to enroll. Everything is laid out in advance before they start. Their experience is their responsibility.

College is a huge decision that should be thought about thoughroly...our motto is get them to pick up their phone, get them to do a FAFSA, get them to do an Application, and start them same day! Get that number on the book so you can collect your huge bonus. What???? NO NO NO! ABUSIVE enrolling every day, open your eyes people

WQMv8Ri-bxu Well you were one of those people with blinders because it happened all the time. You my dear don’t know what you’re talking about! Students were told what to put on the FAFSA especially if the numbers were low. It’s all a a sells pitch admissions sells the school and then FA goes in there a have them complete the FAFSA and convince them that signing the FA papers won’t commit them to attending the school. On top of that the prospective students are there all freakin day because pressure is on to complete everything! Then what do FA do call every freakin day if everything is not completed, basically harassing the student. Don’t get me started on lying about the accreditation and not mentioning that the programs failed the gainful employment! Oh and don’t get me started on enrolling students after the enrollment deadline or unregister students to add them to another enrollment are you kidding me that this never went on?!

WQMv8Ri,

That might be how it should work, but it doesn't. Admission reps ducking student calls, telling them and parents what they want to hear and straight up lying, finding students who have no business even being there, making other departments work that much more difficult. Disgusting. Shall I go on?

That might be how it is SUPPOSED to work, but that's not how it actually works nor is it the only concern... the mental state of some of these students has me question how they even tie their shoes...

Remember when we would get homeless to apply, use their info, tell them they’d have housing, then use up their financial aid. Yep..... it happened a lot.

I have heard first hand from lousy admissions reps at our campus who intentionally lie....it's not BS, if it was, there would never have been any lawsuits.....just sayin'

All students are not required to complete the college readiness course - which is a joke unto itself. They only have to complete it if they haven’t completed 16 sh/ 24 qh from another institution. So only about 15-20% of our students do that test.

Not admissions... Leadership who pressured admissions for numbers or else they get the ax. If leadership would cater to qualified students, all would be well.

-jwy more BS. It would is restricted to tell students what to put on the FAFSA. We can clarify questions but again it is heavily regulated to ensure nothing is being falisified. If a student can complete all the enrollment steps and they want to start classes they can. What you’re describing does not happen.

You forgot to mention admissions would move forward with enrolling students that could barely form a sentence or complete the FAFSA without being told what to type. Some of these students shouldn’t have been enrolled. Oh and not to mention enrolling students with no financial means to stay and no support from parents. Admissions can hide all they want but they had a very big responsibility in the retention and graduation rate being so low.

@WQMv8Ri-igc Is accurate with AiO students. 2-3 assignments per week, Pinnacle class structure is 2-3 per Milestone plus a milestone submission, no consistency some classes have 4 some 6 milestones in 5 1/2 week course. Plus AiO students have to respond to 2 peers with each assignment.

GE classes are research and writing intensive.

Design classes are preparation and practice intensive students have to show skill development and creativity, which is no easy task when you have 3 assignments due in a week.

The post is accurate! Admissions has strict guidelines. They adhere to those guidelines or they lose their jobs. Also all calls are recorded and reviewed by supervisors. Stop the blame game. The online class description is accurate as well I know because I take them. Stop lying about what you obviously know nothing about.

What? what program is this? not aio --- and not onground at an ai campus

'Student starts class. 5 week courses with 5 modules. They have typically 1 discussion and 1 paper due per week. They are required to attend class at least one day per week but are explicitly told that 1 day a week will most likely not lead to success.'

Aio -- Try 5.5 weeks / 6 modules / pinnacle might have 4 some still have 6 / 3 assignments per week except for the last week or module. Assignments take 5 - 10 hours each not including reading and reviewing the lectures. Assignments include practical and written component plus feedback to peers. Times this by 2 - 3 classes and working 30 - 60 hours / week for each student and family for most. Some students have 2 jobs. No wonder the retention rate is so low.

Aio requires students attend minimum of 4 days per week or they are dropped from the class and lose access.

****Too many students complain they have been lied to for it not to have some truth in what they claim.
