Thread regarding FedEx Corp. layoffs

Stay away from FedEx

You don't want to work there. The end plan seems to be to move almost all IT to outsourced vendors. Pay is stagnant and benefits get worse each year. I have worked there for 5 years, they are currently trying to force out old timers with needed knowledge. They jump on the ship of what is the latest thing to try about every 2-3 years. Currently Agile and open area collaborative groups, s---s with all the meetings and lack of even a little privacy to allow you to think. Technology is old and they pay lip service to updating to newer ideas. They keep hiring more directors and managers and are very top heavy. I'm glad I have a new job lined up for after Jan 1.

Bumped from @TccvK2j-3vooy for being 100% on point.

No kidding. Old thread but things are so bad now. HR doesn't have the authority to fix the brokenness so employees continue to get injured. HR investigates then makes recommendations. They leave it to the managers to decide whether the recommendations are actioned. The management team is typically the very entity creating the workforce problem. If FedEx calls, run. This place ruins careers and will leave you with all sorts of health problems in the end.

Not been my experiences at all, Life in IT is great. Pay is stagnant for underperformers that see this as a job and not a career, promotions aren’t given based on time served, you have to want it. Slow adoption of new technologies due to being a massive enterprise but we’re trying to get the old timers out of the “well that’s the way we always did it” mentality, it’s killing us with unneeded overhead and process. Culture shift takes time.

I agree, to an extent, with the poster below @xreg - we need to pay better and if we continue to shortchange people on pay the quality will drop. I was always proud to work for fedex but lately i've seen the quality of hires is dropping. i would never say they are 'low life' but they are not as skilled or or as engaged as people used to be. this is a clear indication that they are starting to run the company with spreadsheets and look at everything though numbers - that's what you get whet accountants and finance run the company - the executives should be more focused on the operations and figure out how we improve ops and how we get better and more nimble - i get the cost part and costs need to be managed but you will never grow if you lose talent and if you cannot get the best possible talent that's out there. that's my two cents on this, stop saving money on people and focus on improving operations. this buyout will not help but it's better than layoffs.
