I'm somewhat new at VMware, so I can't tell if this is true or not? It'd be nice to be prepared if it is, because I'm assuming that it'll be "last in first out" if and when layoffs do start.

And the 1 on 1 meeting invitation have gone out to a few individuals in EUC US
When it comes to RIFs ... the selections are more on the factors such as
-cost of rehiring someone else to perform the same duties
who is in the PIP
who has not progressed for a long time in the team
And very rarely .. Manager and employee not in good terms. I have seen couple of instances in vmw where Manager got rid of few employees ..
there is no specific BU or team targeted here, if they have agreed with a number or percentage of workforce to lay off, this will be determined by many factors. Skill sets, Performance, Product Success, Experience, Level of Pay, Tenure or Productivity to name a few. if you are less than a year in then you're typically safe.
It is not always a negative factor that selects you, you may be selected as you will have a better chance to get hired elsewhere. I am in CPBU R&D if that helps
It seems like it - it's great that people even share any experiences on here, however not calling out the affected region and BU makes the contribution a bit unhelpful...

It usually happens in the week of 20 - 30 of Jan. In my team its happened on 27 Jan and once on the 24 Jan 2017.
A friend had weekly 1-1 and no one doubted it. They usually chuck out people with 2.5 to 5 years in VMware. New hires dont need to worry.

The package is good, usually 3 months of salary. 1 month salary for every year in VMware. So 3 years will get 6 months salary and so one.
It's usually a sudden meeting request, first thing in the morning, and termination of the employee's credentials occurs during that meeting. There's too much sensitive information at risk to let most employees work until the end of the week.
Meeting scheduled week of 28th with 1st Feb as the last day of employment?

EUC execs need to go before they screw things up any further.
Traditionally, VMware layoffs are second Tuesday in January, so that's Jan 15 this year. So far there are no major meetings on the books for whole teams\centers, like occurred when EUC was gutted last year, or Burlington center 2 years prior.
A little birdie told me it would be jan 16 in Bangalore, reorganisation on the cards in EUC

Well, Jan 15 is a holiday in Bangalore. Fingers crossed!
Last year it was Tue Jan 9, 2018. One would get a 8am or 9am one on one with manager; I only know one concrete example.
This year, probably similar time.

I too heard it will be Jan 9. Last year the one - one in invite came the night before the Dday.

It is not a LIFO, it is a FIFO. You got recently hired, UR ethnicity is not a problem for the hiring manager.
Within NSXBU and some BUs, ethnicity is all that matters. Just look at the leadership and org chart under the GM of NSXBU.
Annual cut is between 4-7% based on transferability of function to Bengaluru. London and UK development, sales & GSS staff will face more severe cuts. Relevant positions in Bengaluru and Sofia have already been filled.
Commission percentage for HR and hiring Directors when filling positions in India is 3-5% per new employee salary per month. It is the higher than the rate at Cisco and Oracle.
Our president should focus on job transfers to India due to personal gains of managers rather than restricting H1B and H4B -- we live and spend money here.
