Actually the contracts say that if layoffs occur contractors go first.

Firstly, public sector contributes to 403b. Secondly, I have friends who are recent grads getting public sector jobs with pensions. Also contract language for health care in retirement. Further more, specific language as to what constitutes a terminatable offense. To bad we didn’t have a contract like that in place for our brother in Hawthorn. They wouldn’t have been able to send him down the road so easily. But the contracts we are shown now have nothing. And I’m not buying the promise of, next contract will be better. And if it’s not better? How hard is it to then get rid of a union when they don’t follow thru on promises? Seems to me we’d just have another management structure above us, except the union doesn’t pay us, they take a paycheck from us.

There is no such thing as a pension anymore. No company or even the federal and local governments offer that. If you have worked there for years you were grandfathered in but new contracts for fed, teachers, police, firefighters and local city workers don't get it anymore. 401k's are the thing today. Also remember you are the union and they work for you not the other way around. Like the last few threads mentioned, contract's are not perfect 1st time around but you work on making it better over time and what you want to do is protect your job and better working conditions. Not get treated like your there slave and allow management to talk down to you.

The workforce already is contracted out. ATS is a contracting company that works simply for ATUS.

The money is there, the top just needs to let some trickle down. Anything not specifically written in a contract is not enforceable. To all the union reps out there, please give us a reason to vote yes. Not a promise of next time it’ll be better. Show me the raises, show me the pension, show me better health care options at an affordable price, show me a limit on contract labor so I don’t need to worry about CSI doing my job. Show us that, and you wouldn’t have an issue getting any vote. Is the company’s lawyers that good that you can get us none of that? What will we be paying a union rep for?

I think with the situation at hand requires a much better starting point for a contract to make it worth while. I think if there was a way to put a conditional approval on the unions to come up with an agreement with management that put us at least 1 step further along than we are at currently for the money we will be paying. And when it comes to contractors, the current contracts don’t even limit their use. Bottom line, if they wanted to they could contract %100 of field service and construction, because it doesn’t say they can’t.

You have good points and I respect your opinion. However Rome wasn't built in a day. I agree the contracts are weak but in my opinion it's a start. These key components of contracts you speak of do not happen overnight. In most instances every 1st contract didn't have what it needed. I'm a firm believer that hard work should be rewarded and that's why I was never interested in a union. The last few years the company has made it clear they want the workforce to be contracted out. One of the key points I have read is that there will be no layoffs as a result of contracting. This is short term assurance next contract there is more work to do. Do you really believe if you make a decent salary it really matters to them. They want to pay as little as possible union or non union. Good luck in your journey.

Hey WGjOkkT-1hiv, thanks, takes a big person to call “my bad” especially here. I’m not saying unions are BS. I have family in public sector unions, some retired, and they are set for life. My issue with the contracts I’ve seen is there are no pensions, no guaranteed raises and no protection from the company. Don’t get me wrong, I’m the first yes vote when you show me a paid retirement and step salary increases. But all I see is a company manifesto on running things the same as they do now. If we are all gonna pay up a thousand or more a year in dues, get a contract worth paying for. All I see is a %2 pay cut.

Just leave. If your not happy with your job move on. Stop begging company for VRP. Go start fresh somewhere else. Some of you guy's just don't have the ball's to stand up and fight for your job. All you like to do is bad mouth unions but won't give it a chance to try and make things better. Prefer to get on site and cry about how bad unions are and how hour job stinks. It's time to do the right thing and preserve what you currently have. Go union.

My bad dude saw that union bs and it got me tight tired of the union bashing, I would like for people to realize that the worker is the union in reality we vote for what we want that’s why we elect our representatives(coworkers) to negotiate our terms of employment, with a Laywer of course. Good luck and fight the good fight.

explain to me why you say union bs are you preprogrammed by the company to dislike a union?

Do you feel there is no need for you to negotiate the terms of your employment?

Do you feel there is no need to get your benefits and policies in writing instead of the company changing the rules as they go or see fit to benefit them?

Have you had a bad experience with a union?

Have you ever had one bad experience with your employer?

I would have to say yes since you are on this site, asking the company for a vrp.

Why don't you ask your manager for a vrp, they just might give it to you? Isn't there not a open door policy. What's the worst they will say no, please stop that negativity towards a union, if you don't have any direct experience with them except negotiating against them if you do have a pleasant day hope you get that vrp, me I'd rather fight for my job than run out from these guys that are running this Ponzi scheme I'll leave under my terms if we had soldiers like us you wouldn't have been on this website looking for a package, happy holidays union basher fight for your job don't run from it. ps I am not a union representative a Tech that has been here since we had 3 digit numbers.
