Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

Don't be naive

Are there people here who honestly believe we are done with layoffs? That Broadcom will happily keep on everybody who is left forever and ever? Seriously?

Get real, people. The former CA employees will be continuously trimmed until all but a necessary few are left.

Don't bet your future on staying here.

"Why work when you can live off the backs of others?"

Just ask to the 80% (worst case) or 89% (Italy) who work... because most people want to work, rather than living on the "backs of the others".

"the more generous the labor laws in favor of the employee the higher the unemployment rate. "

Of course. Why work when you can live off the backs of others?

@WGTwU40-eekr: is not that different from what I meant: if you force peoples or countries into severe conditions, you should then expect severe consequences. Right?

Next time there are riots in your European country due to lack of jobs I hope you all remember this experience. Your labor laws are crippling your economies.

Everyone I know in US came out ahead. CA compensation and RSUs were sad in comparison.

company cars and car allowance are neither a reason ca was bloated (company cars cost companies nothing in europe since its all tax deductable) nor that employees are quitting.

I think its easy to understand given what has been going on here the last months, a promise of money that you may never get, when you just lost 80% of the people you have worked with? Come on who is that naive?

A f---ing car allowance? Seriously how many jobs give car things these days. It’s this type of sh-- that made CA such a bloated mess. Stop your b--ching go out and find that job with car allowance or s--- it up and take the bus.

Many in Europe considered the offers inferior for two main reasons.

  1. In Europe, many people were given either a company car (often BMW or Benz) or equivalent monthly cash allowance, plus CA paid for all fuel. Given has price in Europe, these two benefits added up to $15k per year or more. Broadcom have axed these.

  2. A lot of European employees have seen their on-target bonuses slashed.

If you add 1 and 2 together in my case, I am over $30k down per year. Broadcom have awarded me RSUs that are intended to balance things out but these do not start vesting for over a year. Therefore in 2019, I will be down $30k and it will not be until 2022 that things swing back in my favour. Even then I will be at the mercy of the stock price and US$ exchange rates. Many mainframes are looking to retire soon, so may not get chance to best enough RSUs to make up for the deficit cause by the loss of other benefit

Also, employee rights are stronger in Europe and some people are annoyed that BC is trying to force this upon us and that is simply illegal in many European countries

@WGTwU40-2snc

Would you mind sharing whats new in those letters?

Broadcom offered same base salary

Broadcom offered bonus targets (noon sales) which were better than CA

Broadcom offered RSUs, which most folks at CA never dreamt of

So how come CA Europe folks got Inferior offers?

You better believe it is happening in Europe. Employment laws are much tougher in Europe than USA and employees cannot generally be forced to accept employment terms that look to be worse than their previous ones. In the Broadcom case, many people would be worse off in the soft-term (before RSUs start vesting so were refusing to accept the terms offered a week ago. These people cannot legally be sacked, only made redundant on the terms offered to those recently terminated. Broadcom obviously want to keep these people and we are waiting for new offer letters due out tomorrow

"There are rumors that almost none of the stay people have or will sign the offer letter and management is preparing new (more RSUs) and better offer letters. "

C'mon man. Use your head. That's not happening.

CA people are become sand in Hock's hands... Every days I see STAY people leaving voluntary.

resistance of STAY people is huge. There are rumors that almost none of the stay people have or will sign the offer letter and management is preparing new (more RSUs) and better offer letters. I guess the CA acquisition this is something totally new to Broadcom.

The reason “transition” people were offered “stay” is because of voluntary attrition. Not because the margin is so good.

And if Enterprise Products has a 70% margin then they better sell a lot more and cut a lot more.

Yep ashok said today, 50 on transition was offered stay letter. Next year margin is already to be projected to be 55% and year after 70%

That goes for any company.

Broadcom has though offered full time positions to about 1/4 of those initially put on transition.
