Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

There was a post that said "there are many good people at Juniper". I agree, but I also emphasize that none of them are in charge. So who is making sound business decisions at juniper? No one.

The reality is the Juniper way has now transformed into a culture of fiefdoms. Juniper has become an environment filled with people making critical decisions for personal gain, over what's good for the company. These individuals have formed networks of self serving allegiances through personal favors, promotions and friendships, through which they hold onto positions of power and influence... while making one bad decision after another, until they all snowball into a failed state of mayhem that results in more rounds of periodic layoffs.

Is there any hope to correct this situation as we spiral out of control into the abyss of corporate destruction? Get someone with insight and intelligence at the top. We need a new CEO. Someone who can varefully promote a culture of rewards based on achievement and not favoritism. Advocate doing the right thing for Juniper, and not doing the right thing for one self. Lead by example and clean up the toxic waste dump of executive leaders, VPs, directors and managers who are running this place down into the ground.

The OP is spot on. I would add that the epic failure of juniper, a giant sillicon valley back in the day, can be largely attributed to these qualities of the leadership team and there effects.on Individual contributors.

When people are in over their heads, they need to compensate for it. Most people in positions of authority do so by exhibiting emotions in the form of anger, arrogance, bullying, b---s---ting, forming groups, and generally creating a toxic work environment for people who do work hard and get things done. That is why things become very bad, very quickly, when bad leaders are put in place to manage good people. They spread bad vibes.

This happens more often than you think, in corporate America, and Juniper is no different. I find this to be more true at Juniper than any other place I have worked at before.

All the executives, including systest VP are very rude and abusive, he think yelling and verbal abusing is part of management skill, it is really sad to work for such leader.

None of the above. They’re not ptofessional managers, they’re tech guys. But keep in mind that Juniper has been around for 20 years and we do still spit out a piss load of cash. Yes it’s run poorly, but not bad for being poorly managed. But it just reminds us all at how well run Cisco is. To stay on top in tech for 20 years. Astounding.

I agree with the OP. Everyone is demoralized. No one is motivated to work hard anymore. Notice all the long faces that turn up for work everyday? It's depressing to watch.

That's just pure grass is greener sentiment. While it's true most large companies aren't as screwed up as Juniper, complaints are universal.
