Then get promotions only for key folks. Great culture in Juniper and WFD/USF every where.

If USF project is run from WFD, then there is 0% chance of it going anywhere. WFD has the worst management in the industry; much worse than SVL management. In addition to incompetence, WFD mgmt has zero credibility. A perfect example was the TC project in which mgmt mentioned in early 2013 that the project is all done. The project was actually done in the second half of 2015. However, folks got their promotions before the truth came out.

Once blame game ends on the USF project there will be promotions handed out to the few chosen ones. Maybe SVP too for the top gun and a couple of dirs.

I want to tell one thing that don't think your inner circles are the only one contributing Juniper success. Accept failures and AAs lackey culture. My sincere suggestion for them to resign and start building independent career on your own. Some time, situation would fire you back from all Sufferers (witnessed a lot in this thread).

If Grade 9 is Sr. Staff, then it is the terminal position in Juniper. Even Google, FB etc have terminal positions. It is very hard to get a promotion once you reach Grade 9. This is the reason why folks go into management. It is easier to get promoted from Sr. Mgr -> Director than Sr Staff -> Principal. I think this is true in most tech companies, not 100% sure though.

I used to work in WFD and WCLvcz7-1pzg's mention of the Tomcat project brought back memories. I was deeply involved in this project and witnessed the horrendous mismanagement that took place in the project. ICs toiled day and night on this project while managers were communicating lies about the status of the project. At the end of the project, management said that the project was underestimated. Complete BS. The reality was that the project was correctly estimated by ICs but management intentionally miscommunicated the estimate for their personal benefit. One of the main purposes of Tomcat was for certain folks to get a promotion. This could only be achieved by lying about estimates.

Till date, it remains a mystery to me of whether AK was the liar or whether first line managers were lying to AK.

There was one more reason for the surge in BRAS revenue. Unisphere routers (aka Junose) reached EOL and were replaced with MX. This coincided with Tomcat project ending. AK was pretty lucky and used this surge to get promotion + CEO excellence award.

It’s time for Rami to put on his big boy pants. Empty the swamp and pivot juniper back to being the innovative super power it once was. Plain and simple MJGA

If Rami can’t do it, then he needs to move out of the way and let a true CEO step in and save juniper.

Pierre-Paul is going to finish destroying juniper. We are starting to see a lot of the good sales people leave.

USF is the project to kick SRX and it's team out, and as always how AA works, make optimal use of $$s. SRX people are not dumb to let this slip by and take it lying. They are underwriting it's failure.

Grade 8 is staff, 9 Sr. Staff.

AK is the Wfd/Bras VP and a certified AA lackey. Any SP business has a lifecycle and so too Bras where the routers are refreshed every 8-10 years and this is what happened. Juniper caught the last upgrade cycle and the revenue surged. It would have surged even more had TC project completed on time, it took 100% longer which is 2 years more than planned. Such horrendous delay by AK was pardoned because hey, that's what being a lackey means, right! it helped too that cisco had exited bras business. now that they are back in, its time for revenues to shrink. Oh, and USF? again owned by AK.

Of course NK, RM deserve Fellow positions. Do you have any idea how hard they s--- AA's a$$?

BTW, is grade 9 Staff?

I am watching this thread and I understand the OP submitter concern. Juniper is making easy promotions fro people from Director and above to, but not to engineers. Many engineers at grade 9 level are leaving as they are clueless about next promotions. Projects keep on changing.

I think NK, RM don't deserve Fellow positions. Also, some replies indicate that some revenue surges triggered promotions and but same leaders couldn't turnaround Juniper. I think Rami Rahim should stop promotions globally rather killing sr staff/principal engineers career at the cost of other management promotions. Few people taking over key positions is not good for the company.

Don’t get me wrong I do agree with your overall negative investment thesis regarding juniper. And mainly due to a poor execution culture. I still have a fundamental problem accepting our poor performance as network traffic continues climb.

However, don’t think of revenue in a narrow accounting sense. You don’t want to be the guy that says Red Hat gets no revenue from Linux. This is exactly the type of thinking (tech over business strategy) that dominates our company to our detriment.

• Is AK above the WFD VP? He was promoted 2 years ago since BRAS business which he owns surged in revenue.

• I thought Contrail had revenues. I understand it is not profitable but does not have 0 revenues.

• I spoke to friends in EVO a few months ago and they told me EVO is ready will be deployed in QFX. Not sure if this really happened.

• What is USF?

Juniper's future looks bleak at this point, I really doubt if it is fixable at all. For Juniper routing is its main source of revenue. Over the last few years, the difference between switches (made by Arista) and routers is shrinking. Arista switches have a lower cost per port compared to Juniper which Juniper will never be able to compete against. My prediction is that Juniper revenue will shrink slowly from $5B per year to $4B per year over the next few years. Juniper is pretty much irrelevant in the switching and security businesses.

Rami must be credited for picking a group of stellar losers from the crowd as his leadership team. That's about the only thing he appears to be really good at these days - picking the absolute worst choice from the cesspool. Well that, and destroying the lives of many people by laying them off after many years of dedicated service to Juniper.

(Now, before the "corn-holer" responds to this message with his usual "you must have had a bad childhood or got fired" message, let me say neither is the case.)

All's lost for USF, every single bit of grey matter has already departed, it's soon to be shut.
