Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

Mistreated by Micron

I have been with Micron almost twenty years. I am darn good at the different jobs I have had here over the years. I have always done my best in all assignments I have had. My evaluations have always been in the "4" range sometimes even a "5" Several months ago I was asked to move to another area and suddenly I am now a "2" I have been given 90 days to drastically improve or I will be let go. How or where they got this two rating is unknown to me but I know I will be losing my job. I feel so disrespected and sad ;even embarassed. I feel like a fool to have given so much hard work to Micron only to be pushed out the door like this.

I'm so sorry you are going through this, but you are not alone. This was like reading to what happened to my husband, to a T. Micron doesn't care about its employees at all, they are just looking for ways to get rid of as many as they can without having to pay severance. Sad but true.

Sitting in a warehouse on Christmas day with absolutely nothing to do, waiting to get laid off in a few months. Ladies and gentlemen this is the new Micron. Isn't it great!

Yep you are only a number now. It does not matter if you are in the top of your class, own a special code written, or have a bunch of micron patents. Goal is to cut cost and labor is expensive in the United States. Everyone is scared... No one at Boise will be retiring from Micron.

To "adapt or die". What goes around comes around. One day it will be you.

You will find that corporate greed doesn't care if you've kept up technically. They only see that you cost more than a new college grad and your arrogant a-- will shown the door.

What you say may be true but your sarcastic attitude tells me you have many life lessons yet to learn. Good luck with that.

Sounds like you failed to keep up technically and failed after you were forced out of your niche area. The fact you stated 20 years with micron makes me think you should be on your way out anyway. Adapt or die

@jex

Can you explain your comment? Do you mean move to India because jobs in general are moving to India or something else?

To Ex Micron TM, you left because you had to give someone a 2? Have you ever seen someone walk out and quit who you were given a 4? They walked because they were being driven into the ground and given all the work no one else wanted to do which was being pushed on them or else? High rankings or low rankings everyone is being treated like garbage. Sixty+ hour weeks, work from home and give the credit to others. This is nothing new, this trend started years ago even with the previous CEO. Now we just have some harder rankings, the bell curve was always there just a little skewed to the left.

I am glad I am gone, smartest decision I have ever made. I did it my way and did not let the trash management control how I left either. I still have my pride and dignity.

I miss the Micron that once was for sure and the ones who left or are going to get laid off soon. The best of luck to you as lots of people out there are looking and the job market is very competitive right now. My advice is take any job as it will be income as it might be a very long time until you find what you really want to do with your life. Your next job you enjoy doing could take years to find.

Sadly this is what is happening now...many good people have left micron. It is no longer a great place to work. The rating system now will see more people being let go in years to come..they should remove People value at the company...take care of each other my foot....

Ex-Micron TM here. I had directs before and was forced to give a 2 to a TM, eventually the TM left. In lieu of this, I felt I’m not cut out to helm a leadership position and other personal factors, I left for other pastures.

The truth in my opinion of Micron on what has become now is that leadership is desperate for invigoration of the workforce. They probably think that pegging performance could spice things up. They have failed on understanding the human element. If the stories from the historic grapevine were true, Steve Appleton was ousted back then, micron TMs rallied and ex-demised-CEO was reinstated. This piece of event had inspired many to give their best ethics to Micron in the nineties and it prospered from there.

Micron needs that now but it’s obvious, the leadership are not genuine people and everyone is watching their backs. I don’t suppose there’s a credible micron leader at this era. The current CEO will only think Sandisk is the model company and was his pride and joy being the founder. He probably condescends Micron remaining culture.

For you guys who are roughing it, my advice is that you could re-prioritise the career portion of your life. There’s no need for reparations, just move on.

Sorry about that. Your capability and performance should be still excellent because you got 4 or 5 in the past. You are really great though, you suffer from just bad area, bad bosses and bad luck now. Probably, you showed such excellent performances while those bosses in new area were trying to hide their something "strange", which is not the best for the company but no one should clarify or disclose the "strange" because of unhealthy hierarchy. Normally, that "strange" is called a degradation symptom by increasing untouchable things. If so, I believe the company will need to realize and fix this problem ASAP. Otherwise, the company itself will be kicked out from the market because no one can make their own future to survive due to the "strange".

On the other hand, newer competitors are aggressively ramping their business, way sophisticated cases have happened on current technology node there already. It is like Micron in 90s as you remember, there were much less "strange" then. So, serious situation may happen in 3~4 years at Micron if the company does not change, I forecast. However, your case sounds like acceleration of the degradation instead of rebirth.

Actually, same thing happened to me in the past and I left Micron then. So it is a good time to have sabbatical off, which Micron does not have, and think 2nd career at peaceful place if Micron does not change. My neighbor advised me to sue Micron but I disagreed. Life is long, I like people.

Good luck.

I feel for you. Same thing happened to me. I was in a department for many years. I was promoted twice and received very good reviews. I was then asked to move to another area. The manager in the new area disliked me from the beginning. I was bombarded with constant negative feedback. This was so surprising and demoralizing because I had previously worked with many different supervisors /managers and this guy was the only one who didn't like my work. I believe I was setup to fail and given no chance to succeed so that he could prove the department I came from was inferior to his. I was eventually let go. My advice is get out of that department ASAP or leave Micron.
