  • Most families can get away with a cheap 20 x 5 package (20 Mbps download speed and 5 Mbps upload speed). This allows you to surf the web and stream video with 20-Mbps download speeds or back up your content to the cloud with 5-Mbps upload speeds, for example.

  • Netflix says you need 5 Mbps to stream HD content and 25 Mbps for 4K Ultra HD content, but you'll want faster speeds if you plan to connect several devices at once.

  • If you're planning to stream 4K video content and have multiple devices connecting to your network simultaneously, seriously consider investing in faster download speeds, like 200 Mbps, which should work for most users.

  • If you’re going to stream gameplay, such as through Twitch, you’ll want a minimum of 2.5 to 4 Mbps for 720p at 30 frames per second. That jumps up to 4.5 to 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps.

Do some research buddy 200 for streaming and gaming is way more than you need. Anyone who thinks you need 200 to game and stream should probably find a job somewhere else because it is completely unnecessary. Quality internet is more important than just straight speeds. Unless your running some type of server or constantly downloading stuff speeds don’t matter as much as what you are told you need by your provider.

Talk to me when speeds really matter. The average family doesn’t even need 200. 100 is plenty. I survived as a family of 4 two kids gaming and streaming hd video on multiple devices with 50. Wasn’t streaming 4K video or 8k but still it’s way over sold.

He already trying to trick the average residential customer that they actually need 1gig of bandwidth.

A family of four with 4 smart phones, 2 tablets, a PS4, an Xbox, 2 laptops, and 2 firesticks will likely never use more than 200Mbit of bandwidth at any given point in time.

I hope that I can trick people into thinking 1000 down/50 up is as good as symmetrical gig.

"On the network side, the first objective is to have 1Gig broadband services available virtually everywhere. For our legacy coax network in the Optimum footprint, we just need to do a Digital Switched Video upgrade now to move us to DOCSIS 3.1 and 1 gig speeds, which we can complete over the next few quarters."

"We just soft launched our fiber network in select areas of Long Island, and is performing just as we expected so far, delivering a great 1 gig symmetrical single-play data service with the new advanced wireless gateway. The smart meshed Wi-Fi we've introduced is also doing extremely well."
