Rumors from big management meeting this week in WV. IBEW legacy area techs will be phased out since they do not have a “No lay-off clause” like CWA. Techs will be let go beginning of 2019, CWA tech groups nearest will be moved into those areas. Company trying to delay any IBEW contract talks until the new year.

Why get rid of techs you can pay less and require more? Oh yea and do it with not even a quater of the workforce? That would be a bad move on FTRs part.

That post kind of contradicts itself being that IBEW 317 just ratified their contract 2 weeks ago and IBEW 2035 is voting on their TA in the next few days, both Union's being WV Legacy employees. They didn't try delaying either of those work groups until next year. I'm not quite sure where you're getting your information from but something just doesn't sound right here.......just saying.....but you know how rumors go.
As far as the IBEW workers in WV joining the CWA (my union), I had the same thought and talked about it to a union leader a while back. My understanding is that the workers would have to decertify from the IBEW then wait a year and then join the CWA. That would mean a whole year without union protection.
When is IBEWs contract up? Maybe CWA could absorb them.......doubt the company would ever go for that though.
