Enbridge no longer on Canada's Top 100 Employers list

The "Canada's Top 100 Employers" list is out for 2019 and Enbridge is NOT on it. It was on the 2018 list (and possibly before that?). Union Gas was on it for years pre-Enbridge. Enbridge not being the best place to work right now will not be a surprise to anyone who works there, but I always thought getting in that list was more or less a foregone conclusion for any big company? The application takes a ton of resources to put together, so I was under the impression that there aren't a ton of applications.

Anyone have the inside scoop on this? Did they not apply this time? Are you automatically disqualified if you lay off-off 1,500+ employees?

tropic thunder,

You have been drinking the purple kool-aid. How can you be well informed enough whether people are getting calls for interviews. Thinking that and saying that is simply id--tic

If you guys are so good, thats a list of 100 firms to go be a superstar at. What are you waiting for? Oh, perhaps you’re not getting any calls for interviews?

Lol you people would be p-ss-d if they spent money on an application for a fixed report on "best" companies while people are getting laid off.

Clearly year 17 and management is sending a message to this country.

I'm not sure which is worse... not making the list or not applying. $15k is nothing to Enbridge. If the ranking helps us attrack even a few really talented new employees each year, isnt that well worth it? I mean, using a recruiter to find talented applicants for just one role can definitely cost more than $15k. Sends an odd message, that's for sure. Await some corporate spin on this... can't wait to see what they come up with.

It probably takes a lot of hours to prepare the application. After constant layoffs you don’t have the HR hours and don’t need to attract people. My last employer was a good one and didn’t spend the effort to apply either.

Don't believe that line that they didn't want to spend the 15 grand the truth is that they simply did not make the list. The workers here know that management s---s and the work environment is the worst. The have cut pensions, benefits and laid off over 1,500 people would you put them on the top 100 list

This recognition was a point of pride. Now we don’t even have that. Extremely deflating. In a time when recognition is getting beefed up with Careerscape tokens (for those whose PLs give a toss about stuff like that), we couldn’t spare 15K for a blanket public-facing award? An award that says, “Well they’re a pipeline company, but at least they treat their employees well.” How is this in keeping with attracting great talent?

All the money this conpany wastes and they're worried about a $15k application fee that gives AM bragging rights? Maybe they're embarrassed to be on such a list after laying off thousands.

The effort isnt worth it? Thats funny coming from a company thatll fill out a form so that it can fill out another form. Not to mention good ol Al LOVES to brag about being in the top 100. Me thinks they knew theyd be out of contention and decided to have a premade excuse " It isnt worth our time to compile the application." We spend thousands upon thousands on stupidity day in and day out but we cant "justify" spending it on this. Not buying it.

A lot of big employers and strong companies in the industry have stopped applying for these awards. The effort is not worth it.

Weird. Why didn't they apply? Did they layoff the people who usually compile the application?

Find it Interesting they would apply 16 years in a row and just stop.

Enbridge did not apply this year.

Wow!! Hopefully this is a wake-up call for the ELT. They never accept any responsibility for the way employees are feeling - they instead think they are faultless and just seeing inevitable and unavoidable blow-back from the Spectra merger and having to cut redundant positions, as well as “necessary” change related the industry. The Top 100 award, however, is based on things the ELT can 100% control, should they actually want to. Here’s the list of what the award is based on:

(1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere (3) Health, Financial (4) Vacation (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training and (8) Community Involvement

See previous mention. All employers need to pay a $15,000 application fee and perhaps Enbridge felt it wasn't worth it as they are laying off people and screwing their existing employees.

Too much strife within the company, lots of people laid off with even more voluntarily leaving. Its hard for a committee to vote us in as a top employer when its rather obvious that we arent anymore.

Edit to post above: I checked, and the Enbridge website says it’s been one of Canada’s Top Employers for 16 years. YIKES!
