Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

Stages of Layoff Grief

Over the past few weeks people have posted about things like Islandia not affected - etc. Now I see people making comments after they received notices.

I was in the same position a few years ago - and it took me a while to finally accept that I would never get a job with CA - Now Broadcom again.... My very best advice to everyone is this - Take the severance pay, Cobra Payments and move on with your life quickly.... But don't run out thinking a maximum 12 month of salary in severance - give you 12 month to find another job. A lot of taxes gets taken out - and things you never had to be concerned about such as Life Insurance - Cobra payments - LTC Insurance etc. cost a ton of money....

Denial - "This can't be happening."

Anger - "I am so p-ss-d that those id--ts.

Bargaining - "How about if I take a pay cut...?"

Depression - and, I would add, fear. "How am I ever going to survive?"

Acceptance - So here is a certainty: while you are in the first four phases, you aren't going to get another job. So roll through them, give yourself some time and then figure out what you are going to do next.

Anyone who feels they were blindsided by the layoffs were operating with their head in the sand. Layoffs or CSI (cost saving initiatives) as they were referred to as were an annual event at CA, so why now act so surprised.

Learn the lesson big business has taught you and realize it’s a job, go there to make money and find friends in your personal life.

Half my team was put on transition. The other half was retained. Not sure who is worse off...

I feel like many of us have known for ages. I think once the RIF happened in May, we were all aware something was happening and an acquisition was on the horizon. Then we were told in late August to start finding something else. We essentially could not open POs after end of September. And had to stop most programs the beginning of October. This gave us ample free time to search for new positions. I'm grateful for the heads up. Because I was able to secure a new role starting in December.

I realize some other teams did not have as clear of writing on the wall.

Take a few months break and study and become certified with Amazon Cloud (AWS) and by spring time you can find a real job.

Every so often the jobs shifts and layoffs happen. Time to move on.

I think the original posted was trying to say - get over it - take the money - waste no time except accept what happened and move on.

Did 'Bike Boy' really destroy the company? CA stock price had not moved above and below an average of 25-27$ per year. Investors held the stock - because it provided a 4 percent annual dividend return annually. And it did so for many years.

'Bike Boy' was somehow able to convince someone to purchase this old company with all its legacy and pay almost 45$ per share.

The CEO of a public traded company in my mind only has one task - Preserve the investment for stock holders and maximize their return. I did not work for CA - but I did have a lot of their stocks - purchased at 24$ - and I was happy when I saw my stock going to 45$...

If anything I would go to his house and thank him... Sorry to me - it's an investment and I could not care one bit about what else happens to people.

WOW....I am reading this for the first time and this is INSANE. Why did you all stay there in the first place. This bike boy has destroyed not only this company but so many lives. He will millions $$ of this deal and you guys are out the door. When last year it was revealed that he was trying to sell/merge the company with BMC, that should have RAISE THE ALARM for you all. Be like Google employees and walk out when you see MANAGEMENT has taken you for-granted. Even though a $HIT place like CA with all its legacy tools, no intelligent & sane person wants to work there....My sincere recommendation to all those who are thrown off the payroll is go and protest this ...Go to that bike boy residence and make his life miserable...follow him on twitter and every place he goes, WARN the employees ....write BLOG about how he destroyed this company by firing thousands and thousands in his tenure. Highlight all the wrong decisions he made when he was given the staring wheels of CA. Make his PAY for what he did to you all. Dont repent or regret.
