Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Not sure what vision the Ford family has for this company. I took the buyout in 2018 after 41 years. Ford stock hasn’t been a good investment for years and Jim Hackett has made the future of Ford even more speculative. My advice ... take the lump sum and handle your own finances. Being connected to Ford Motor Company is not a smart investment until they get competent leadership. The new blood Ford is bringing on board in the PDC also leaves a lot to be desired. Such a shame; Ford used to be a vibrant and well respected company.

Ford is expected to lay off between 25,000 and 50,000 workers around the world this quarter! If you already worked over 30 and 40 years, you should be ready to bail at moments notice

Thank you on the 100% comment. I cant agree with you more on Ford's unclear announcement. They should have waited until they were ready. Now we have to worry daily and walk on egg shells until we know if we as individuals are being put out on the streets. HOLIDAYS are coming and I'm sure they wont be the happiest of times for a lot of us. Our place announced a Town Hall almost 2 weeks from the day Hackett announced this. So we sit and wait to get a little piece of the puzzle until the Town Hall. Its ridiculous.

What's worse is that if you had any money in Ford stock since Hackett got in, you've lost a lot $$$$$ already even before the cuts come.

I do believe Fords vision of autonomy and their lack of decisiveness has cost them greatly.

For those of us who have worked there our entire lives it's going to be much harder to find a job with our age. These auto companies have basically lost their minds with the race for autonomous vehicles. Their going to be focused on young technology fresh out of college students who will accept a smaller salary just to start their career. Talent they can mold into their vision not experienced professionals in the business.

The CEO sent us all an email a week or so ago saying the layoffs were part of restructuring the organization to be more flat and to reduce bureaucracy.

There was no mention of impact from tariffs, although they undoubtedly are involved.

For the person who started this message thread - you wrote a good post, it's 100% on target.

Hackett is cleaning the house and cutting cost, the cash flows will improve but before any of that happens there will be a lot of pain all around. This can be handled in a number of ways, so no matter what they do it will hurt but they can make it less painful if they execute this correctly.

My first complaint is on the timing of the whole thing. They should not have announced anything as they are causing pain and agony for tens of thousands of workers. They should have kept the whole thing secret until the D day - summon all at once and make the cut. It's more humane this way.

My second complaint is the fuzziness of signals they are setting, if they already announced that we'll be losing jobs, they should have said how big the impact will be and what they plan to cut - I know that some of that info got disclosed but they should have been much more concrete and technical in the announcement.

I know this is just one voice, a single opinion, but that's how I feel right now.
