Advice to management if there is layoff in future

Employees are like tissue papers to management. Tissue papers are very critical for before doing certain things but once your work is over the view on tissue papers changes. Unfortunately many of in MetricStream management treat employees like tissue papers, in case of customer escalations management select some critical employees to solve the issues. After solving the problem, employee get appreciations, awards, salary hikes, promotions - also some enemies because it’s finger point game between teams.

At the end the same employee will be in the layoff list because of high salary or some manager did not like your way of work.

1: Management/Leadership think - how the salary which you offered becomes high suddenly when you are terminating employee?

2: If management did not like employee because employee good work causing problems to your job so including that employee in termination list is not ethical. Think once about the politics you play in work, think how you receive same happens to you. Everyone is doing their job, please be honest on your decisions.

Layoff the employees based on performance, not based on salary. Note that employee salary is offered by the BU head if he joined newly, BU head is accepted the truth that employee performed well thats why the high salary is offered. Same BU head again terminating employee with high salary reason is not the ethical

This is as simple as, people who dance to leadership music will be retained, promoted and others will be terminated. Employees just should release product when leadership says release irrespective of quality. As long as you are doing it you can work here till you retire in the company.

I have been there during the last lay-off and I can assur no one was selected based on their salary or performance , the only thing considered on who will adapt to change and those folks were retained and rest laid off. However I thought the severance package was really good along with an option to refer them through our partners and trust I wanted to be on the laid off list to get that money and get out . Having said that I am sure there could be some black sheep’s who may have used that opputuntiy to practise nepoatism and favouritism . However in larger scheme of events the decision was fair.

Metricstream showed great empathy and emotion at that time ,it been a long time I quit now I don’t know the state of their mind . All I can hope is if lay-off happens again hopefully the attitude should be the same as 2017.

Keeping in tone to your advise to management - if lay-off have to happen please let go mid level managers and directors who are good for nothing and give them the power to select people for lay-off. No point . Please look in to the organisation as a whole and take decision from highest level and purely based on numbers and individual attitude to change.
