Qualcomm plans to set up largest campus outside US in Hyderabad

Qualcomm will be investing $400 million to set up their campus in Hyderabad.

The proposed facility would be its largest campus globally after its San Diego headquarters

Phase-1 of the project would include a built-up space of 1.7 million square feet, housing about 10,000 employees, it said.

"The proposed facility would be its largest campus globally after its San Diego headquarters"

By the time this Huuuuuuge facility comes online in 3-4 years, San Diego will have had sufficient furthe waves of lays offs that HYD will be the largest, huuuuugest campus globally.

Most of the engineering heads in san Diego would be gone geo shifted to india..

For san Diego real estate it would be double whammy .. rising mortality rate unemployment and may be recession

so sad to see this once great company selling out to investors who can care less about what happens to American workers or 10 years down the road. They only care about making a quick buck.

I can almost hear the managers and directors saying it won’t affect that many in San Diego as they review the next lay-off list. This company is no longer about innovation it’s all about money, soon they will realize that without innovation the money flow will stop. Monster.com here I come

Considering the increasingly competitive semi sector it is quite clear now that Qualcomm will be offshoring a very, very large number of jobs.

I am preparing now. We have listed the house in carmel valley and the rental properties in anticipation of a likely move to bay area or chennai

Don't be left behind with carmel valley mcmansion and no income.

If H1Bs are limited, companies will just move jobs off shore.

Wow. That is huge. Arguably no longer an American company when most employees will not be Americans and not even working in America? Hard to imagine there can not be major layoffs stateside down the road sooner or later.

Couldnt agree with u more. Many indians are smart but only in the american environment of sharing ideas. In india, blatant plagurism of ideas is rampant which results in "either i do it or no one" attitude. I have come across maybe 1 smart engineer in the bdc office out of the 50 or so i have interacted with. They are generally extremely dumb there. And the good ones never stick around.

For the company’s ultra narrow product line, 10000 employees in Hyderabad means 10000 layoff in US sites. You current employee will have to see a big wave of layoff in near future.

This is a bad sign for Qualcomm. It isn't good for India either. These 10,000 new employees will also be let go in a few years. The reason is simple...financial engineering can't save this company. The innovative spirit is gone. I worked with many brilliant and hard working Indians, but for some reason the recipe works better when they assimilate here in the US. I doubt Qualcomm can maintain a leadership position in anything.
