Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

Can we please keep the rumors out of the form

Dear colleagues and other

Many of us are really distressed at the situation. Our livelihood depends on it - and even some of us will be kicked out of the countries we are working once the deal is done.

So please dont give misleading information. Dont say demeaning comments. If you have a question, great, please ask. But for all those people who have no knowledge and merely writing things based on their guess - keep those comments out or say that you dont know but you guess.

I want to repeat again this is a very stressful time for many of us so have some empathy.

The only way Islandia would be kept even short term was if the cost to exit the lease early was so expensive it wasn’t worth it. But even then they could sublet.

There are something like 1000 CA people left in the building, many of whom are long standing SG&A people. Expensive (even by NY standards) and largely steady players. This doesn’t even count the overlap roles like HR, Legal, Finance all whom have a lot of people in Islandia.

To make the numbers work Broadcom will have to reduce Islandia by a lot. 50% minimum, maybe more.

And if you have 400-500 people left you could fit them in a much smaller Class B office in Hauppauge and spend a fraction of the rent, even factoring in exiting the Islandia lease early. If people don’t like it they can resign, at which time those roles will be rehired in a cheaper location.

Broadcom doesn’t have a Long Island presence. No company in its right mind wants to expand in NY, and certainly not LI. It is a high cost, highly regulated location. Even Gregoire was downsizing Islandia. That should tell you something.

You almost made sense until you suggested they will be keeping Islandia. No way that happens.

Word that I hear is that some teams have been advised and some not yet. One VP did not give reassurance to his team in either direction (Broadcom hire or release) but DID encourage his large team to start their job search Now.

The date I keep hearing is Oct 15 for massive layoffs.

The new company will have three hubs for former CA, San Jose, Plano and Islandia.

Views are my own...

Rumors and real inside information you hear is good but too much trolling and filler threads. Broadcom bought them for mainframe contracts and customers not distributed. There will be massive layoffs.

There may be good information but it's not worth your time trying to figure out in advance which information that is. I read these posts for entertainment but i'm not counting on any of them being true. We'll know when we know.

Years ago I heard the best rumors from two groups - the limo drivers and the lunch people in the Islandia cafeteria. All the execs would talk freely and didn't think anyone would listen.

For anyone with any experience at CA, and the ability to do some basic research, it's not hard to guess what will happen. Is it a guarantee? No. But is it more likely than the scenarios like "they will want to keep Islandia" or "they won't lay anyone off in x group"? Yes.

Some of the snide remarks aside, it's clear that there is a lot of good information being shared with good insight.

Yes, there is a lot of "making things up" on this forum. A lot of "speculation disguised as information" as well. Do not believe anything you read here.

Well, yes and no. Yes there is a lot of speculation, but what I've noticed is the frequency of posts matter. For example, if all of the sudden folks start posting about ABC it's VERY likely ABC will happen. If i see a random post about XYZ will happen, and nobody bites, nobody expands on it, people are ignoring it - than I ignore it too.

Also, if a post is peppered with relevant info and it makes sense, it's likely its true.

Finally, keep in mind that we disucss all of this in the office as well - it's not like we are coming to layoffs.com completely blind - so, what people write here is just an expansion of what we've already heard in the the office, sometimes augmented with additional info....

My two cents only, it's up to you how you will use this board - it's easy to log off and never visit again.

Corporate rumors here are usually true.

It would be wise to start your job search NOW, wait for the coming layoff, take the package, rake in some cash and start your NEW JOB after a couple weeks off.

Dear @VsCEtnK,

Take it easy. Treat this forum as a channel to laugh off your fears and frustrations. Everybody is stressed a bit and empathetic to others...but dont try to find it here. And remember there is life after CA. A great one...

Let's keep this board clean guys. Only publish official information now onwards.

Like, there is no news of anyone getting fired right now. Or everyone will retire from wonderful Broadcom after completing 60 years of service.

Oh wait - that we can read in the top management's official statements too.

So let's close down this site rather, it's useless. Thank you, buh-bye! 😛😛😛
