Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

I know I will probably be banned on this site for the following comment.

I am an employee of bass pro and I am very happy to work for bass pro. So far bass pro I think have really stepped up to assist those who have been laid off due to the merger between bass and Cabelas in Sidney. Thanks

These reasons are precisely why I recently quit my part time position. There was no longer any incentive to continue. ZERO discount on things that I really want to buy...I'm not a fisherman. Over the years, I probably spent more money in Cabela's than I earned. Now, I doubt I will ever spend a dime again.

The work atmosphere changed slightly when TM took over...Then started going downhill fast when DC passed away. With the BP takeover, there is nothing left from the former company that enticed me to go to work there, taking time away from my family. Even the Cabela's products are disappearing, being replaced by brands like Redhead, Ascent Outdoors, Natural Reflections, Bob Timberlake, White River, etc, etc, etc. "Grow both brands together" was quite a joke.

I'm confused as to why the discounts went away, at the same time that prices were going up. Someone is truly greedy.

On the plus side...now you get a wonderful Christmas ham to make up for it all.

I work at Cabelas. We had a great discount program. It's gone. No discounts on guns, optics, reloading or ammunition just to name a few. Use to get a military discount on those items and others. It's gone on those items and anything thought as big ticket, 4 wheeler, generator etc. Got discounts on used guns now we get none. Did get programs to get discounts by earning points when you sold guns and optics. It's gone. Use to get vacation if you were part time or not. Didnt matter if you worked 10 hours a week. It's gone. You have to have 1040 hours a year roughly 20 hours a week but they schedule most part time under 20 hours . Cabelas was a great company to work for and took care of us. Bass pro is disgusting in everway. We lost in every way possible when A-- Pro Jonny took us over. They also stopped the Christmas party we had every year. At least they wouldn't fund it in any way.

What???? Johnny Morris aka BPS is a hero???? No freaking way! This a**/company has destroyed many lives and Sidney, NE. He is a red-faced liar. Just look at the Shared Services divisio. Johnny made the comment to the then CFO that these people needed to withdraw their buyout letters. Johnny was so committed to leaving this division in Sidney, NE so these people were needed. Fast forward a few months later, Johnny changed his mind and wanted the CFO to go to Sidney and tell these people, "never mind, we will be closing this division in Sidney March 2019". CFO then quit. Devil will deal with this man someday!!!

The buyout seemed too much a pre-fabricated conspiracy. Get Singer to buy into CAB and then become an activist. Voila, Bass Pro becomes the buyer. The family wanted out and maybe, just maybe had more than an inkling how to orchestrate some trajectory so they would not look like the heavies. IMHO. Who here knows the real details? All I know was that for at least a year before it was officially announced, there was indications that the company was stonewalling about what was being worked on behind the scenes.

I know for a fact that the family was in talks for three years before the terms were settled on. And you say they lost control of the company when they went public...? what? how so? They went public they could keep as many shares as they wanted to. NO, they gave away control of the company. Because they always knew one day they were going to cash out.

I am so sick to death of these apologists. "The poor family were forced to become billionaires by the evil Tommy Milner...you should feel sorry for them...they lost control" Give ME A BREAK!!! They are sell outs!!!

When Cabelas went public the Cabelas family lost control of the company . If you read the merger agreement between bass pro and Cabelas this wasn’t a Jim Cabela deal it was a deal drafted by Tommy Millner and other executives. I have heard the executive team at Cabelas first Proposed a sale to bass pro when Jim Cabela was out of town because they feared Jim would shoot the deal down. Once the proposal was made Jim Cabela and Dennis Highby tried hard at different times to get a agreement which would benefit Sidney but they were shot down by the executive team at Cabelas . I do agree bass pro is not to blame and have really stepped up to ease the pain of the merger agreement in Sidney.

I am Cabelas employee and 100%agree with poster statement. I know it is hard for Sidney folks but it is not BP fault by any chance. Blame anyone including Cabelas family, executive, your choices...... but not BP.

I agree, the family got wildly rich...they pulled the strings from the shadows...company management were the fall guys. They were handsomely rewarded to play that part, but it was chump change compared to what the family made. They really stuck it to Sidney.

It was the Cabela’s family that brought us here, that took us on the tour and convinced us to to uproot our families and buy property here, in this godforsaken town. It was also the Cabela’s family that left us high and dry, holding the bag on our now worthless property. Perhaps JC could take a few million of his cut out of the trust and buy us out. Then he could donate the properties to whomever he wants to, ensuring that his new neighbors will love him once again.

The Cabelas family sold us out. Without their votes the sale would have never happened.

I think the poster was referring to the Cabelas executive team and not the Cabelas family.

Well whoever is to blame, so many lives disrupted, a community damaged, it is hard not the blame BP with the rest of the miscreants involved in the bloodbath.

Agree with the comments it was the greedy non Cabela’s executives that were brought in that ruined a great company. Granted they were business oriented but truly didn’t understand our culture.

BP has been painted as the bad guy in all of this, but in reality, the one's that ruined the company and Sidney were the 2-faced greedy backstabbers that walked among us, and countless fawning wannabes followed these guys blindly. The guys that told dirty jokes and drank it up at the golf course are the same ones who developed the plan to cash out at the expense of those who laughed at their jokes, poured their drinks, and believed everything they said. JM may be an opportunist, but it was not him who betrayed an entire community.
