Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Real Leader!

Amazon is raising its minimum wage to $15 an hour for all US employees.

The change takes effect November 1 and applies to full-time, part-time and temporary workers. Amazon says the $15 minimum wage will benefit more than 250,000 Amazon employees, plus 100,000 seasonal workers.

"We listened to our critics, thought hard about what we wanted to do, and decided we want to lead," said Jeff Bezos, Amazon's founder and CEO. "We're excited about this change and encourage our competitors and other large employers to join us."

The change applies to Whole Foods and all other subsidiary employees.

Amazon also said its public policy team will begin lobbying for an increase in the federal minimum wage, which has been $7.25 an hour since 2009.

Amazon is trying to do two things.

  1. Starve Walmart of workers going into Q4.

  2. If Walmart has to raise its minimum to $15 per hour, it will slow Walmart’s expansion and hurt them a lot more than it will Amazon.

It’s pretty genius actually.

I think Amazon is great for pushing Congress for $15. Walmart would never do that!

So if more people shop at Amazon as a result and they increase their market share over Walmart and Target then the gamble will have paid off.

So basically, Amazon is going to lay a bunch of people off to make adjusted costs incurred by min wage.

Just like Wal-Mart did when they increased the wages.

Poor people never seem to understand that no matter how much money you make; it won't be enough if you can't manage your personal finances.

Don’t hate Amazon for taking care of their people! Unlike some companies I know!

Forcing 10+ Year associates to have split days off all the sudden. Work every holiday, rotate their schedule forcing them out!

That makes me want to shop at Amazon even more because they care about their people!

I wonder what WM Home Office thinks of this? Wm at one time was competitive; it’s just slowly going to the bottom like everything else!

Yeah, WM loves PR stunts!

They lie so many times to confuse the media. Then the media doesn’t do the job of following up truth, so they spin fake news!

I’m glad I don’t have to put up with 2% for the year!

Walmart loves to cut their people out of everything except the stockholders and home-office.

Amazon just opened a distribution center in Shelby, MI (Northern Detroit suburbs). I'll bet the 2 closest WMs are c-apping bricks right now.

That's great for Amazon employees, Walmart should follow suit but they won't. Even if they did I will just get screwed as a 18 year employee. It will be just like a few years ago when they raised starting pay and I got screwed. Raise starting pay by 2 bucks an hour and give long term associates nothing. All of a sudden 16 year old kids are starting at the same pay as some long time associates. The problem isn't starting pay, it's lack of raises and room for advancement. If you raise starting pay it's only fair that current employees should receive an equivalent raise, but nooo not at Walmart. IF Walmart raises pay it's only a PR stunt, and won't help current employees.
