Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Tell me about your Union (Whole Foods Market TM)

So creating a union or joint one has been a hot topic as of late at Whole Foods Market. I'm just curious about your starting pay, benefits, job security, growth opportunities and overall morale at work. Also, how much do you pay in union dues. Thank you in advance for sharing.

100% accurate, after 20 years in the industry this is my #1 complaint when it comes to unions

The union is non-factor in growth opportunities or work place morale.

About $45 a month in dues. Dues are collected whether you work or not. Wages are locked to a scale, so even if you're a hard worker you make the same amount or less than someone who doesn't work hard. It would appear they don't fight for better pay. Benefits are good, but that is provided by the company, not the union. They will get involved with any disciplinary action taken against you, even if you're wrong - had a guy threaten a few other employees (police called) and they're fighting to help him keep his job. So there is that. The union is non-factor in growth opportunities or work place morale.
