Calling customers to switch to AMD- smart move?

Am I the only one thinking this is not a smart move? HPE is the only big company in the server market that’s free falling, with the market share rapidly dropping, and large attrition of qualified workers. With that sort of under performing we desperately need confidence from our customers. And we did just the opposite, leaving them in suspicion and disbelieve, considering that none of the other companies reported problems with Intel about server CPU shipments. I guess it’s easier to blame Intel for our own failures than to do something concrete about it.

HPE and others have been taking advantage of poor US trade deals for years. Now that the person you call an irrational actor is trying to level the field, companies will adjust. It is business 101.

Intel is simply practicing triage. On the battlefield, the medic gives more medicine and attention to the soldiers who are judged to be more likely to survive. Intel is short on CPUs and ASICs, so HPE, which is floundering the worst, gets lowest priority on deliveries. Intel simply wants to get the most of its parts to the most users as efficiently as possible, so HPE, the least efficient, gets cut first. Intel wants to stay in business. THIS is why HPE is complaining first!

Also, at the "bigger picture" level, many companies (not just Intel) have been scrambling to move production OUT of China, to other nations, for many months now. They saw the writing on the wall... That Trump's trade wars are especially targeted towards China. There is no relief in sight; major supply chain disruptions and price hikes are inevitable. This is what happens when irrational actors start irrational trade wars.

I call BS on the AMD thing. I am NOT a fan of HPE top management at ALL, but this one is real! Intel is NOT able to deliver to customer demands, so HPE is having to buy (at additional costs in the millions) Intel components on the spot market. Moving towards AMD at this time is the exactly correct thing to do, actually.

I actually talked to an HPE server SA today trying to get him over to my company. But he is comfortable at HPE so now moving. I get it you get comfortable at a job and you stay. Who know what October will hold. I was let go last October.

Why don't you just leave? I don't think, by now, there is any doubt if HPE is winning or losing in the marketplace or not.

The real question is why someone would stick with a losing company.
