Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

What's your primary gripe?

Of all the things we've dealt with (big and small), what's the 1 thing that causes you the most heartburn?

If I had to narrow it down to one thing, I think I'd have to say HR. Something is seriously wrong with that group. One thing I noticed from afar is that they incorporated HR folks from Spectra, but gave them no say in anything, made their titles sh--ty and took away their teams, and then expected them to rally the rest of us to the cause of the "needed change". The incumbent Enbridge HR people also seemed bitter and jaded before the acquisition happened. The result... some of the most frustrated, angry and bitter people in the company ended up in charge of harmonization policies and roll-outs. These HR people would come and do the presentations they had to do and would manage to tow the company line for an hour or so, but if you asked questions more privately later, they would trash their own departments' decisions, throw their hands up and say we're just lucky to have a job. From everything I've heard, they feel just as p-ss-d off and helpless as the rest of us, but if HR can't manage these festering people problems, then who the f--- is accountable for it? Equally, if HR can't get their own staff behind thwir own decisions, then how the f--- do they expect the rest of us to? This issue is at the heart of everything. Listen to your own goddamn staff for a start and be accountable for the attrition and widespread anger and fear and do something about it, starting in your own shop. Give your malcontent staff something to do other than posting controversial articles and trying to stir up stuff on Yammer where everyone is afraid to post anything ... maybe get out and LISTEN to people rather than delivering scripts. The Spectra acquisition happened a long time ago now, and if sh-- is still not working, put someone at the helm who isn't known for making disrespectful comments about a female coworker's physical appearance as part of the intro for a presentation about s-xual harassment. Maybe get someone in charge who isn't tone deaf and actually seems to understand the policies his department is responsible for. You know, that s-xual harassment presentation emphasized that there would be zero tolerance for that kind of behaviour, yet apparently when the person accountable for the policy breaks it, it's ok! A stupid apology on Yammer is enough!

..anyway, kind of a rant there, but HR is my main gripe ...lol

A single reason? I'd group it as being sh_t on for so long. Lack of respect of prior experience, demotions, increased benefits cost, BS 1% raises, management sport of bullying.

Did I miss anything?

Primary gripe. When interacting with Enbridge's head office the unmitigated arrogance of employees who know better than anyone else. It's a my way or the highway approach not what's best for the company.

Is it only Enbridge in this state? Why are people just not leaving and going to another energy based/related firm?

Going to work on Monday and not knowing if I’ll still have a job on Friday.

It’s getting real old. I hate it.

The way AM has treated employees over age 50 sickens me. He lays them off, leaving some of them with no pensions and others with seriously downgraded pensions (not indexed to inflation). Of all the people that Al has laid off over the past four years, I wouldn’t be surprised that 70% of them are 50+. Employees under age 50 should take heed.

AM giving himself a 12% raise and freezing raises and cost of living of all employees....what a d*** move! Enjoy retirement AM, while most employees will find a new job after retirement, just to get by, sleep well AM, i know i wouldn't if i were you!

Anyone who’s had the confidence—or stupidly—to point out the obvious has been either laid off or cowed into submission.

God help this company.

Working at Enbridge has become a daily game of survival of the fittest, where “fittest” does NOT mean smartest, most experienced, most capable or most deserving, but rather best protected by someone at the top and/or most willing to stick a knife into someone else’s back.

Decent people do not win at this game. They shut down until they are laid off or leave on their own.

We are now left with a bunch of back stabbers, cowards and a-- kissers. They were always there but now that it’s the survival of the fittest so they are showing their true colors and back stabbing and throwing others under the bus more often. The high performing and talented people have either left or gone into hibernation until they can get out. There is a ton of people who can unite and have things change but they won’t bc they are too divided. So let’s take accounting for example. If 50% of the team just walked out before the earnings report was due to the SEC, what do you think will happen. To hire new people and no one to train them, how long would it take for the report to be created, verified and filed? The board will fire atleast a few execs not by choice but to show they are are looking into the situation and doing something

Ha! Your boss excludes you? Mine undermines me every chance she gets. In meetings with others, she announces changes to plans we had previously agreed on without consulting me first. She constantly changes deadlines that affect the people I’m working with. She gives conflicting information to MY direct reports. She reassigns projects to my colleagues after she has already assigned them to me. And, yes, she excludes me from meetings and conversations I should be part of. So, please, go ahead and lay me off and give me my package.

My trust is gone.

I used to trust. But the constant layoffs, the way I’ve seen former colleagues treated, the bullying, the degradation of my salary, benefits and title, and the way my boss excludes me all tell me that I don’t matter here anymore.

So I keep my real thoughts to myself and my eyes open for other opportunities.

I’m here but not here. What else would you expect?
